Job purpose:

Ensure the overall business and strategic alignment of the Groups Technology and Infrastructure IT architecture at an enterprise level.
The Enterprise Architects role links the group business strategy to the IT strategy, within the technology and infrastructure Enterprise Architecture segment whilst at the same time considering all other enterprise segments.
The Enterprise Architect will need deliver and keep current the respective Standard Bank Enterprise Architecture Technology and Infrastructure roadmaps and how the current and future needs can be met in an efficient, sustainable, agile, and adaptable manner.
Investigate Enterprise wide strategic IT trends applicable to Technology and Infrastructure segment and advise on the impact, benefits and alignment required by Standard Bank.
Prioritise and deliver to the demand for Technology and Infrastructure EA segment specific enterprise architecture deliverables within timeframes acceptable to the business.
Ensure the provision of enterprise wide architecture leadership to the community of business and IT architects across the group including opportunities to realise EA roadmap.

The role demands a driven and committed individual with good technical background and knowledge as well as strong analytical, problem solving and people (influencing and facilitation) skills to be able to drive alignment of application, integration and data architectures, capabilities and standards. The individual will have a continuous improvement approach and be committed to developing themselves and focusing on optimizing the value of information assets in the organization.

The following high-level activities would be required to assist Group IT in realising its objectives as defined within the overall Group and Business Strategies for IT:

Develop, build and maintain the required IT Technology and Infrastructure Enterprise Architecture competency and capability and provide leadership to the community of IT architects
Provide Technology and Infrastructure EA vision and leadership to the broader architecture community and the inter function data flow to support the Information (Technology, Infrastructure, Applications, Data and Integration) Architecture in each functional domain
Provide Technology and Infrastructure EA segment thought leadership by injecting experience and intellectual capital to Board Level
Drive technology and infrastructure alignment of IT technology, application, data, integration and business process strategy with the Groups business goals
Define the Technology and Infrastructure Enterprise Architecture vision, strategy, principles and standards.
Own the Technology and Infrastructure IT Enterprise Architecture blueprints and influence IT and business stakeholders towards alignment and adoption of the architecture
Facilitate the construction and maintenance of the Technology and Infrastructure technology transition roadmap
Promote use of shared capabilities, infrastructure and applications to promote scalability, reduce costs and improve information flows
Facilitate inter-project, inter-process and inter programme IT Architecture technology and infrastructure integration across the IT systems landscape.
Facilitate the creation, maintenance of and adherence to architectural principles (across the enterprise and within the technology and infrastructure segment)
Facilitate external input and vendor influence on architecture evolution
Provide input, as required, on large-scale projects and road maps for compatibility with the vision
Facilitate and drive the development of architecture position papers detailing definition, trends as well as current and possible usage of emerging technologies

Internal and external relationships Requires sound relationships with various business and IT roleplayers most significantly with the IT Architecture, Solution Design, Development, Integration, Data Management and other related functions.

Experience/Qualifications Required:

The role requires advanced, broad based knowledge of the overall field of Information Technology, with a deeper focus upon all aspects of the specific enterprise level segment architecture. Experience of the business, information and technical architectures within Retail and Investment Banking is paramount with the candidate ideally coming with experience of a large global organization in that industry.

The candidate will have come from a background of full lifecycle design and development covering solution design, application design, development, testing and maintenance, network software, operating systems, multi-tier environments, desktop and workgroup software, middleware, server technology, fault tolerant environments, development tools.

Broad experience of application development methodologies, data base methodology, programming languages, data base concepts, data storage and retrieval techniques and data warehousing patterns, high performance computing, middleware paradigms and usage to enable event based architectures, architecture quality control, tools, techniques, application architectures, data and process modeling to provide application integration and application building expertise and advice on application design standards is desired.

Proven ability to work effectively as both a team leader and as a member of a small team of technical staff working on small projects involving the trial or adoption of new technologies. A sound knowledge of major open standards in the IT field plus knowledge of the overall standards setting process is required. Actual experience in development of such standards would be an asset.

Specifically concerning data, the architect must be able to understand how the data relates to the current operations and the effects that any future process changes will have on the use of data in the organization. They must be alert to the need to maximize the data resources by reducing redundancy, enabling accessibility within security boundaries, fostering corporate understanding of the meaning of the data (meta data management). A strong understanding of application rationalization techniques and roadmap definition is also key.

Degree or advanced degree in technical/computing subject
Significant experience as an Architect ideally with time in an Enterprise capacity
Track record in enterprise technology and infrastructure management solutions and large scale solution architectures
Experience with the complete information system life cycle
10+ years’ experience in Architecture/Solution design delivery in large domestic or global institutions
Ability to deal with all levels of the business and technology organizations
Experience in Defining conceptual, logical and physical architectures and data models
Strong analytical skills and complex problem solving skills
Strong planning, time and process management skills
Familiar with TOGAF, Zachman, Bredemeyer and other EA frameworks
Experience of the finance sector either in Investment or retail banking.
