Job purpose:

Strategise, plan, develop and implement robust technology that is beneficial to the Data Services. Manage these technologies as to ensure that the DS derives optimal value from it.

Key responsibilities:

Management of Technology Service:
Directing, strategising, designing and managing the technology service.
Implement and maintain technology and ensure that it operates optimally.
Drive ongoing improvement.
Provide guidance to top management with regards to suitable data processing applications.
Drive cost efficiency and productivity of service delivery
Build relationships between DM and all stakeholders
Evaluates and recommends suitable hardware and software.
Responsibilities include long-term planning, budgeting, staffing and operations.
Perform change management to deploy and reinforce the implementation and adoption of the service.

People Management:

Develop, implement and maintain job description competency model for Technology Service.
Assess competency of DM resources and drive personal development.
Conduct people performance management as per group standards.
Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to all DM resources.
Recognise and reward people appropriately.
Motivate and inspire people.

Resource Management:

Understand demand for services.
Establish appropriate sourcing channels and contracts for non-permanent staff.
Ensure sufficient people availability.
Perform people allocation.

Quality Management:

Perform quality control as necessary to ensure quality of service and compliance to standards.
Ensure all escalations resolved as per expectation.
Facilitate various forums (e.g. design forums) and drive out various initiatives.

Process Management:

Review and improve technology processes.
Manage and perform process quality assurance according to approved plan.

Business Administration:

Ensure timeously and correct timesheet allocation.
Provide input into division’s budgets and influence appropriately.
Ensure management of various activities and initiatives within budget.
Provide input into the division’s strategy and influence appropriately.
Actively engage as a member of the Management team as to ensure that our day to day operations are optimal.
Actively engage as a member of the Management team as to ensure that we shape and craft our division as per our strategy.

Technology stability reports
Technology Architecture/landscape documents
Hardware & software upgrade roadmap & recommendations
Optimisation improvements
Budget provisioning for infrastructure medium to long-term requirements
ICMD audit report and monthly cross charges

Internal and external relationships:

DS Management Team members
DS user community
Group Architecture, Solutions Design and Process team.
GTO infrastructure support services to ensure that there is no duplication of responsibilities between the teams and that there is effective co-operation between the teams to ensure achievement of objectives.
DS Project managers for relevant projects architecture & capacity requirements.
EIM to ensure alignment
Vendor engagements

Knowledge:

Banking Experience is beneficial.
Degree or Diploma in I.T and the required Certification with 10 to 12 years related experience.
In-depth knowledge of Data Warehouse best practices and related technologies.
Knowledge and technical appreciation of the interconnectivities and interfaces between various technical platforms, operating systems and processes.
Good understanding of ITIL
Must understand the need to align the IT and business strategies.
Good understanding of hardware, software, application, networks and technical design

Experience:

Solid Data Warehousing experience.
Solid technology experience.
Experience in various technologies such as Teradata, SAS, MS Sql and UMR.
Good understanding of database administration
Good understanding of operating systems such as Unix and AIX
Business Unit, People Management and Financial Management
