Role Purpose:

Design, implement and provide 2nd level support for the IRESS network
Work on special local and globally based projects that will enhance the IRESS Network (including Design/Build and run various corporate and production networks in South Africa and the UK)
Diagnose and resolve complex problems relating to Network infrastructure
Provide guidance and analysis for resolution of application problems
Assist in providing and initiating strategies that ensure the IRESS Network is aligned with IRESS business strategies, etc

Accountabilities & Deliverables:

Design and implement IRESS network solutions; this may incorporate the following technologies - Juniper switches and routers, firewalls (Fortigate/Netscreen/SRX/PIX), QoS, network management (Splunk, Netflow, CastleRock SNMPC, PRTG, etc), sniffers (OMNIpeek, Wireshark), load balancers (Radware), IPTel and VPN technologies
Provide 2nd level support for LAN/WAN data communications problems and/or tasks.
Analyse complex problems and co-ordinate resolutions.
Monitor network performance, capacity and trends
Submit and review planned network changes that relate to the IRESS network
Work on special local and globally based projects to enhance the IRESS network
Create and document relevant network standards and processes where applicable
Provide consultancy to IRESS clients relating to application access
Provide technical support and analysis where required both during the business day and after hours.
Analyse application problems and assist in the co-ordination of resolutions where necessary
Ensure that all elements of the IRESS network Infrastructure are documented and that the relevant standards are understood and followed
Assist with the communications billing reconciliation and circuit procurement/re-negotiation processes

Key Relationships & Challenges:

To work with all levels of technical staff and management (both technology and business).
To work within a global organization that spans multiple time zones.
To diagnose complex Network problems autonomously
To ensure that all aspects of the network are fully documented and that the relevant standards are understood and followed

Qualifications:

Tertiary qualifications or equivalent. Engineering degrees will be more highly regarded.
CCNA or higher

Core Skills, Experience, Knowledge and Attributes
Mandatory:

10+ years’ experience in the IT industry, with at least 7 years specializing in designing/supporting large scale LAN/WAN environments (50+ WAN sites & 1000+ nodes) and supporting/diagnosing IP based network issues
Extremely good understanding of all networking technologies – e.g. Ethernet, bridging and spanning tree, routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP,OSPF), TCP, UDP, FTP, firewall technologies (PIX, Netscreen, Fortigate, SRX), load balancing technologies, WAN technologies and IPTEL technologies
Good understanding of IT security fundamentals and the ability to manage Internet connected Firewalls with large and complex rule sets
Ability to define and enhance Network Security strategies
Excellent understanding of LAN-based sniffer products and traffic flows for analyzing IP network traffic.
Good understanding of http and other web based protocols
Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues

Highly Regarded:
Previous experience in a similar financial organization.
Exposure to market data systems and multicast data delivery.
Previous experience in a global role or team.
Experience in managing a small but very technically skilled team
