Role details:
Perform deploy and operate work that pertains to z/Linux & z/VM operations (as specifically allocated by line management from time to time in order to achieve optimal work load distribution amongst job holders.)

Key Result Areas (Responsibilities):The incumbent shall be accountability to perform the work as allocated that will pertain to one or more of the following z/Linux & z/VM deploy and operate processes:
Perform deployment work for projects on demand and in accordance with project schedules.
With respect to z/Linux & z/VM applications:
Perform day to day application and user administration and other application specific maintenance. In terms of user administration, ensure that user access regime is applied.
Deploy application patches, refreshes, and upgrades in accordance with related deployment and release schedules.
Maintain backups of the operational application to enable restore in cause of disaster recovery in accordance with the backup and restore regime.
Perform DR exercises as directed by the BCM regime.
Resolve incidents and problems and escalate 3rd level support requirements to 3rd party support contractor(s) and coordinate support provision. Service restore shall satisfy service level agreements.
Maintain run books for z/Linux & z/VM operations utilising deployment- and maintenance guides directives originating from Products & Services.
Interact with Products & Services to optimise and maintain z/Linux & z/VM infrastructure and operations service levels at a level that fully endorse GTO’s service level agreements with its customers
Support Operational Controls processes (Audits, Risk and DR& BCM governance, business processes improvements, performance management, and finance and business management), supply requested information and implement corrective actions as applicable.
Qualifications''
National Senior Certificate
3 year Diploma or degree in IT or similar (not compulsory but preferred)
Certification in SUSE, z/Linux & z/VM would be advantageous.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 -10 years’ experience in z/Linux & z/VM.
Demonstrable track record, specifically technical ability.
General understanding of the Mainframe z/OS environment.
Skills and Competencies:
Detailed Knowledge of SUSE, z/Linux and z/VM pertaining to installation, maintenance and administration.
Knowledge of latest IBM infrastructure components, disk, tape and processor.
z/VM installation and maintenance & z/VM customization of all OS components
Planning and Installation of new z/VM and z/Linux environments & z/VM cloning, backup/restore & procedures.
z/VM trouble shooting, and strong problem analysis techniques.
Understanding and hands on experience with guests setup z/VM. & z/VM and zLinux operations, REXX, zLinux setup running without z/VM.
Mainframe TCP/IP, VTAM, Hipersockets, and OSA devices, Software setup for I/O devices (DASD, tape, tape library, VTS).
z/VM security and setup & IBM System z hardware, IOCP, I/O devices.
Have skills in z/VM v6.3, Single System Image Clusters and Live Guest Relocation.
KVM knowledge an advantage.
Must be able to construct (or direct construction of) detailed infrastructure build specifications utilising logical or functional design documentation and technical expertise input from technical staff.
Must have an excellent detailed understanding of typical build configuration(s) of large IT infrastructure footprints.
Excellent general understanding of infrastructure technology specialities (including associated products and services) utilised in large banking environments.
Must be able to articulate the information technology stack (business architecture) and ITIL service management framework to any level in the organisation.
Good interpersonal skills.
Must be able to communicate at and present to executive level.
Excellent MS Office skills (specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio).
