Role details:
As a member of the Infrastructure Operations business unit, you will be responsible for the daily operational support and management of all aspects of the hypervisor environment (VMWare) which includes an OS components and associated variables. This includes the support and reporting on servers, terminal servers, networks, application virtualization and local storage elements where applicable. Must be able to troubleshoot and resolve software, hardware, configuration and operational problems across VMWare enterprise platforms. In this role, you will also provide technical expertise to support the physical and virtual platform and focus on continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the environment. Knowledge of multiple vendor technologies and platforms including VMware, Microsoft and hardware exposure on the Cisco UCS blade and Dell EMC vBlock infrastructure and chassis an advantage

• Provide operational support and ticket resolution of the entire physical and virtualization infrastructure environment which includes building, install, configuring and maintaining Vmware products, Microsoft products, monitoring tools and capacity management tools as part of the Enterprise Cloud environment.
• Management of service constituencies associated to Enterprise Client environments.
• Follow, and enforce, established enterprise class change management protocol in alignment ITIL 3 standards.
• Ensure administration and documentation are kept up to date as to ensure operational governance is consistently adhered to.
• Participate in business continuation / disaster recovery infrastructure planning, building, and testing of such efforts.
• Manage and report on new implementations, lifecycle management, patch management, optimization and service improvement efforts.
• Research and report on root cause analysis and escalate to management.
• Develop, automate and implement industry and operations best practices.
• Perform capacity management and availability management.
• Must have the ability to understand and relate to new products, technology and strategy, and be able to follow directions from team leaders and management.
• Strong communication skills required and the ability to conduct training sessions to share knowledge with peers and other support teams.
• Demonstrates good planning and organisational skills to prioritise in order to meet deadlines and cope with fluctuations in workload.
• Work well in a team format across managed services teams and participate to build a performance culture.
• Provide a level of project management capability that includes planning, documenting and the execution of projects.
• Available to work outside of normal business hours to fulfil production and project needs, provide 24/7 on-call support on a rotating basis.
• Some travel may be required from time to time. Willingness to travel.

Core Functional Knowledge/ Skills
• Advanced technical knowledge and skill in VMWare with latest certification a requirement and 6 years’ experience.

Competencies (Behaviour)
• Strong administrative and documentation skill.
• Excellent written and oral communication skillset.
• Natural ability to engage with customers on a technical level and comfortable doing so.

Qualifications
Relevant Post Graduate Degree (NQF 8) in Business or Information Technology or related.
Alternatively, Grade 12 (NQF 4) with relevant IT certification.
VCP 6.5 an absolute must.

Certification/ Professional Registration
• Relevant technical certifications in VMWare field of speciality.

Experience
• Certification of VMWare Hypervisor and other technologies and associated product sets i.e. vROP’s etc.
• 3+ years’ relevant enterprise class Managed Services production operational exposure which includes ITIL3 governance and change process protocol.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline intensive environment.
• Significant experience in implementing and maintaining VMWare Systems. Windows Server 2012, including DNS, DHCP, VLAN, storage configuration and administration.
• Technical ability to move workloads and upgrade firmware on server platforms.

Special Requirements
Self-motivated and mature approach including strong organizational skills a must.
