Our external client amultinational steel manufacturing corporation based in Vanderbijlpark is currently looking for aProduction Automation Systems Analyst to manage the operation of PAS / process computer systems inhis/her allocated area of responsibility, with the aim of ensuring maximum service levels to therelated production units and other departments.

Qualifications

Must be in possession of at leastan applicable NQF 6 level qualification (BSc degree in Computer Science or Information Technologyfrom a recognised institution).

 
The PAS Analyst is responsiblefor

Managing the operation of PAS / process computer systems in his/herallocated area of responsibility, with the aim of ensuring maximum service levels to the relatedproduction units and other departments.

Designing, developing and maintaining PASsoftware applications according to functional and technical specifications in whose creation he/shemay or may not participate.

Acting as technical advisor to the business whereverpossible and/or required.


 
PRINCIPAL DUTIES ANDACCOUNTABILITIES:
 
CORPORATE:

RepresentsInformation Management in the most positive manner with all customers and suppliers.

DEPARTMENTAL:

Assists andsupports the PAS Manager in the achievement of his goals and fulfilment of his duties by providingaccurate, timely and relevant information on activities; communicating and implementing strategies;and executing requests and instructions.
Applies and promotes application of departmentalstandards, rules, processes and tools.
Participates in departmental specialist work groupsas suited to his/her specific skills or knowledge.

 
ORGANISATIONAL:

Manages own attendance and work activities in thebest interest of the company.
Plans and manages participation in projects, and reports ontime utilisation.
Acts as coach and trainer to colleagues with lesser knowledge.

 
SERVICE DELIVERY:

Operates and supports OperationalLevel Contracts with clients.
Interacts regularly with clients at senior and operatorlevels to maintain visibility and to pre-empt operational changes that may impact on PASsystems.
Initiates communication with peers and seniors to effect action on service-relatedissues not under his/her immediate control.
Maintains awareness of issues out of immediatearea of responsibility that may influence the ability of his/her team or systems to deliver highquality service.

 
DEVELOPMENT:

Providesinputs into, or takes responsibility for, the creation of technical specifications for PASsolutions.
Carefully plans and executes project activities that he/she isresponsible for, in a time frame of approximately 1-6 months.
Participates in project teamsand interacts with Demand section to ensure timely delivery of technology solutions.
Takessole or team membership responsibility for the development of PAS solutions according tospecification.
Contributes technical know-how to project teams during thelifecycle of PAS solution projects.
Applies corporate and departmental standards and rulesin the choice of tools and methods during PAS software development.
Responsible for PAS technology introduction within specific production area (i.e. support andimplement the migration from current state to strategic plan).
Strives to deliver highquality, fit-for-purpose, reusable and maintainable software within the allocated time and with aminimum of rework.

 
OPERATIONS:

Takes full ownership of incidents that affect service delivery, and acts to ensure thequickest possible resolution of such incidents, since delays can have serious monetary and otherconsequences for the business.
Engages colleagues, seniors and/or 3rd parties inproblem resolution when necessary to minimise business impact.
Draws management attentionto deficiencies or inadequacies in infrastructure, facilities, processes or team structures whilecontinuously promoting the application of standards.
Monitors and analyses systemperformance and resource utilisation and takes corrective action or escalates problem situations asnecessary.
Ensures system health by making diligent use of routine monitoring proceduresand doing thorough system checks.
Participates in the creation and maintenance of acomplete and effective Disaster Recovery Plan for all systems under his/her responsibility.
Takes good professional care of systems that he/she is responsible for in order to protect thecompany's investment and ensure optimal service from these systems.
Follows definedsoftware- and hardware change procedures.

 
FINANCES:

Assists the PAS Manager in execution of the budget plan in a timely and cost-effectivemanner.
Applies tools, consumables, training and facilities in a cost-effectivemanner.

 
 
OTHERDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in forums or working groups asrequired by corporate or departmental focus.
Interacts or takes part in interaction withsuppliers and contractors as required by primary duties.
Acts as a production processconsultant through the application of process-specific knowledge, usually in the domain ofmetallurgical modelling. This activity will occur more frequently and at a higher degree ofsophistication in certain production areas (such as Vanderbijlpark Hot Rolling) and can be appliedto the benefit of both the production process and the delivery of high quality PAS solutions.
Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned.

 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
A. Knowledge andskills:

Incumbents should preferably be in possession of an InformationManagement-related degree or diploma, and relevant years’ experience in a PASenvironment.
A thorough understanding of PAS and process control principles, as well as abackground of PAS in a steel manufacturing environment is highly desired.
Proficiency withstandard development tools, and in particular VB.NET, ASP.NET and Microsoft SQL Server, isrequired.
Experience in an industrial software development and support.
Workingknowledge of AspenTech products and technologies is required.
Incumbents must be thoroughlyfamiliar with the Windows family of operating systems, and highly skilled in Windows Serverprogramming and administration.
An understanding of the essentials of system integrationand inter-system communication is required.
Knowledge of relevant PAS technologies,products and tools such as AspenTech software and the Information Technology Infrastructure Library(ITIL) would be highly advantageous.
Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office range ofproducts (Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project and Visio) is required.
Ability to expresscomplex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to read,interpret and create technical IT documents such as flow charts, database design documents andfunctional/technical specifications.
Basic knowledge of TCP/IP-based networking isrequired. Specialist knowledge of networking would be an advantage.

C. Abilities and workingconditions:

The position is primarily administrative, but notoffice-bound. It requires periodic entry into potentially hazardous industrial areas while equippedwith prescribed protective gear.
A steelmaking environment is by nature dusty and noisy,and the incumbent will be exposed to these conditions at various times.
Some locations inthe area of responsibility may require the incumbent to ascend ladders or move along elevatedwalkways.
