Senior Project Manager (2 posts)

The incumbent will be responsible for managing development projects of the University, including the execution of new larger capital works, smaller capital works, and the redevelopment of buildings, service installations and grounds.

Duties:

- Project management, including inspections and regular reports, recommendations and remedial measures, as well as evaluations in respect of client expectations;
- Managing project teams, including clients, consultants, contractors, internal project coordinators, internal service providers, conflict management, motivation, leadership, and promoting and maintaining good communication;
- Exercising full control of project budgets and presenting cost reports;
- Managing amendments on contracts, measuring project progress against the expected, identifying risks and preventative as well as remedial measures, and presenting final accounts;
- Contract management, including drawing up tender and contract documentation, as well as liaising with the legal department and consultants;
- Managing compliance with contract conditions and payments;
- Managing comprehensive record keeping, including preparing general reports, tender evaluations, minutes of meetings, project programmes and communication plans;
- General management with regard to, inter alia, the identification of risk aspects, the application of Occupational Health and Safety requirements, the National Building Standards, as well as policies and procedures of the University;
- Relationship management, including promoting and maintaining good working relations and partnerships with internal clients, consultants and contractors, as well as promoting the internal and external image of Facilities Management;
- Line management in respect of control over the activities of the Project Management Office, their programmes and processes, in order to comply with client expectations, SUFM project Management methodology, and policies and procedures.

Requirements:

- A recognised, three-year National Diploma (T-stream), or an equivalent tertiary qualification in the construction environment;
- Electrical and mechanical knowledge and experience, as well as electrical and mechanical project management experience will be to the advantage of candidates;
- At least seven years’ relevant post qualification experience in a project/construction management capacity;
- Eligibility for registration with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) as Registered or Candidate Professional Construction Project Manager;
- Good management skills;
- The ability to build and maintain excellent interpersonal relations with colleagues, clients and other role-players;
- The ability to motivate colleagues, provide advice, show leadership and inspire to better service delivery;
- The ability to perform within a team;
- The ability to function under pressure;
- Computer proficiency in MS Office;
- Proven communication skills in both Afrikaans and English;
- A valid Code B driver’s licence.

Recommendations:

- Proven on-site technical and related knowledge and experience;
- Knowledge of MS Projects.
