Job Purpose:

To provide specialist technical expertise and support in installing; testing; tuning; optimising; diagnosing problems; repairing; upgrading and maintaining both externally and internally supplied hardware and systems software (i.e. Operating systems; data management products; office automation products; embedded systems); and other utility enabling software and related equipment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Senior Specialist role within the Mainframe Storage Support team responsible for the implementation, service delivery and support of products and systems to enable the Mainframe Storage and Backup service. Responsible for performing daily storage management tasks as well as providing recommendations for effective and efficient management of storage system across all mainframe disk subsystems, virtual and non-virtual tape systems, space management and storage replication environments in a mainframe sysplex environment.
- Storage Monitoring for performance and capacity
- Implement SMS and HSM changes
- Storage Administration & Storage Health checks
- Performance tuning, Storage Provisioning and maintaining availability Backup & Recovery
- Problem and Change Management
- Provide proactive recommendations to the customers for improving Storage & Backup operations
- Provision storage based on standardised procedures
- Participate in the execution of the disaster recovery plans
- Perform necessary storage infrastructure maintenance
- Capacity planning and management of all storage and backups resources
- Performance planning and management of all storage and backups resources

Additional Responsibilities:

- Provides highly skilled technical support/delivery capability as the senior technical support person
- Leads initiatives for reducing incident trends and minimising outages
- Provide 24x7 support on a rotational standby basis to the Operations area
- Design, plan and lead the technical implementation process of infrastructure solutions
- Complies with operational standards, procedures, and best practice
- Provide operational support and guidance to internal clients
- Responsible for the automation of the delivery of the storage service for quick deployment
- Responsible for optimisation and enhancement of the infrastructure (hardware, software and processes) to ensure efficient and optimal service
- Fulfil the role of technical team lead to plan, direct and achieve team initiatives and technical deliverables
- Responsible for technical vendor management

Minimum Qualification and Experience Level:

- Matric - essential
- IT related degree or diploma – preferable
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Engineer (MCSE)
- Minimum 7 years IT storage management experience

Essential Certifications:

- Certificate VMware /SOLARUS, AIX . Certificate in IBM technologies specific to domain
