The successful incumbent will be responsible for digitisation support and the technical administration of the digital repositories and e-journal and e-conference management platforms of the Library & Information Service Division. The Digital Services Officer will report to the Manager: Digitisation and Digital Services.

Duties: Coordination of digitisation processes for research outputs and digital collections;
digitisation of selected library materials;
technical administration and support of digital repositories;
setup and configuration of system workflows and processes;
technical administration and support of e-journal and e-conference management platforms;
designing and implementing user interfaces for hosted e-conferences and e-journals;
creating automation scripts for data preparation and ingest;
planning and executing data formatting and clean-up procedures;
data mapping and conversion with XML and related technologies;
keeping abreast with technical standards and best practices with regard to repository administration and digitisation;
performing administrative functions such as the generation of operational and control reports.
Requirements:
A degree or diploma in one of the following areas: Information Technology, Informatics, Design, or Library and Information Science, or an equivalent qualification;
three years relevant experience in an academic or research environment;
knowledge of and experience in technical issues related to digital repository software;
knowledge of e-journal management systems and practices;
experience in digitisation processes and practices;
excellent level of computer skills;
core competencies in XML and HTML;
good oral and written communication skills.
Recommendations:
Knowledge of and experience in DSpace and OJS digital systems;
managing audiovisual equipment and software;
graphic design experience;
an understanding of the scholarly communication process.
Commencement of duties: 1 January 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter
