AWS Support Technology is looking for a Software Development Manager who will lead a group of 10 talented engineers to build a game-changing new service. A successful Software Development Manager will be responsible and accountable for:
People
· Build and lead a bar-raising engineering team by growing people from within and looking for the best external talent
· Engage across the global AWS organization to increase adoption of your platform
· Engage with AWS customers to guide us towards a successful minimal viable product.
· Collaborate with senior leaders and principal engineers to ensure we make the right business and technical trade-offs for our customers
Process
· Continually improve the software development process
· Incorporate ideas from scrum, Kanban, lean to ensure that the team is operating sustainably, and your customers are satisfied
· Define vision, goals and objective measures for your team
Technology
· Tinker and be curious, our current project charter is taking us towards the big data and machine learning space
· Identify and assess the performance bottlenecks and availability issues within your service
· Invest in software engineer best practices (continuous integration and deployment, automated testing)
· Look for ways to increase the rate of innovation within your team
· Automate the mundane, both for yourself and your team

· A minimum of 2 years of experience managing a team of software development professionals within a distributed systems environment.
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field plus five years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty as equivalent
·


Preferred Qualifications
· Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
· Two years of experience in the job offered or related occupation must involve using Object Oriented design (OOD), distributed programming, C++, Perl and Java; managing all aspects of the software development lifecycle of multiple software development projects using an Agile project management methodology (Spiral, Iterative Spiral,
· Extreme/Agile Project Management, Scrum); and directly managing engineering staff and making hiring and promotion decisions.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Strong business and technical vision
· Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
· A deep understanding of software development in a team, and a track record of shipping software on time
