Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer

The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering is well established in the fields of structural mechanics (design, analysis, testing and optimisation), noise and vibration, mechanical design, mechatronics (including automation, biomedical applications and reverse engineering), energy systems, heat transfer and thermo-fluid dynamics (including renewable energy). This appointment is specifically aimed at strengthening the Department's expertise in the field of energy systems, heat transfer and thermo-fluid dynamics, as well as maintaining high educational standards and expanding the research profile.

Duties:

- Teaching and developing undergraduate and postgraduate modules, as well as guiding undergraduate and postgraduate student projects and theses in the areas of energy systems, heat transfer and thermo-fluid dynamics, with the focus on solar thermal renewable energy systems;
- Conducting research in the above-mentioned areas;
- Rendering service to the industry through specialist consulting.

Requirements for Associate Professor:

- A relevant doctoral degree plus at least three years' applicable practical, teaching and/ or research experience;
- An ECSA accredited BEng or BSc(Eng) degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent;
- Proven academic and/or industry related management skills at senior level;
- A strong research record, including successful postgraduate supervision and publication record;
- Sound communication and teaching skills;
- The ability to effectively teach in a multilingual environment;
- Good interpersonal skills.

Requirements for Senior Lecturer:

- A relevant doctoral degree, plus at least three years' applicable practical, teaching and/or research experience;
- An ECSA accredited BEng or BSc(Eng) degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent;
- Sound communication and teaching skills;
- Ability to teach effectively in a multilingual environment;
- Good interpersonal skills.

Requirements for Lecturer:

- A relevant master's degree, plus at least three years' applicable practical, teaching and/or research experience, or an applicable doctoral degree;
- An ECSA accredited BEng or BSc(Eng) degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent;
- Sound communication and teaching skills;
- Ability to teach effectively in a multilingual environment;
- Good interpersonal skills.

Recommendations:

- More than the minimum practical, teaching and/or research experience in an area relevant to the position being applied for;
- Evaluation by the NRF as a researcher;
- Relevant experience with experimental work;
- A strong research track record that fits in with the Department's strategic focus areas;
- Registration as Professional Engineer (PrEng);
- Proficiency in Afrikaans.

Commencement of duties: 1 January 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter
