Job purpose:

The Product Engineer is responsible for the execution of one or more Product or Service strategies.
This role will execute Product Strategies as per the lifecycle processes and translate LoB requirements, and demand, into Product Strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Development:

Responsible to execute the strategy for one or more Products or Service including the development and maintenance of the “buy, hold, sell” status of each
Execute the Product Strategies as per the lifecycle processes
Execute the technology Products & Services designs and specifications
Research, evaluate and build efforts in support of product strategies
Translate cross LoB requirements and demand into product strategies
Ensure capacity instrumentation is engineered into their products and that robust operational capacity processes are established by the relevant service delivery organisations supporting them.
Collaborate with other product engineers for supporting and dependent technologies to ensure that products and services are engineered and fully tested to deliver complete and holistic services
Develop and maintain technical designs, specification, deployment and operations guides in support of product strategies and in accordance with the iGSC defined solution development lifecycle
Liaise with vendors to ensure that the best value is obtained from their skills and expertise and that configuration is optimal and meets firm standards.
Deliver a maintenance plan for all products to ensure version and patch levels are maintained to defined standards

Service Development:

Design services, ensuring they meet LoB requirements and make use of standard product components
Work with all relevant service delivery organizations across the firm to ensure services are implementable and supportable. Develop robust procedures for deploying and operating services, leveraging efficiencies wherever possible.

Product and Service Financials:

Provide support to the Product Manager in establishing the elements that contribute to the total cost of services
Develop and maintain the necessary entries for their domain within the service catalogue, documenting the key criteria for each service such as pricing, availability, service levels and inclusions/exclusions
Develop the method of consumption and measurement of each service such as inventory systems, ensure such methods are robust and supportable
Ensure that products and services are financially efficient and continually seek opportunities to improve that efficiency over time
Develop and maintain a means to fully understand the cost dynamics (Total Cost of Ownership) of their products and services. Also develop the means to clearly share this information with the LoB’s so that they understand with total transparency, the price of their services.

Risk Management:

Ensure all Products and Services offered are compliant with firm-wide audit & control and architecture principles & guidelines
Ensure all Products and Services are engineered with the necessary resiliency to meet LoB business continuity requirements. Ensure this is tested and validated on a regular basis

Maintain LoB Relationships:

Work with LoB’s to understand and document current and future demand for technology products and services
Maintain ongoing relationships with key LoB contacts and Operations to measure LoB's satisfaction with products and services
Communicate product and service roadmap/strategies to LoB’s

Vendor Relationships:

Manage vendor relationships and vendor selection for their products, in conjunction with the Vendor Management group
Identify industry/third party vendor directions and their impact to the domain

Qualifications:

A university degree preferable
Relevant industry certifications or qualifications, such as, TOGAF, Microsoft, Citrix, CISCO, Avaya, HP, Dell, VMWare

Experience:

5-10 years technology experience, preferably within financial services with preferably some management experience
2 – 5 years people/project management experience is required.

Technical competencies:

Solid technical understanding of the products to be managed, gained through a technical support or engineering background
Strong understanding of the current state and strategic direction of their products
Ability to clearly translate technology detail into business language and vice versa
