Manager: Process Engineering Facilities

The Department of Process Engineering offers a strong undergraduate programme in Chemical Engineering and a significant research activity in the areas of Bioresource Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy, Separations Technology, Waste Valorisation and Water Technology. In support of continuous growth, the Department needs to appoint a Facilities Manager who can provide a strong contribution in support of this strategy.
Duties:
- Managing the physical infrastructure of the department, including maintenance, testing, inspections, planning, cleaning and space utilisation;
- Coordinating all aspects of occupational health and safety, fire, safety and security, including general supervision of laboratories, legislative compliance, emergency preparedness, and safety training of students, staff and contractors;
- Facilitating undergraduate and postgraduate experiments, including planning, management and maintenance of equipment;
- Assisting with activities such as marketing and similar activities within the department and broader faculty context.

Requirements:- A four-year degree in engineering;
- Technical competency in process technologies with excellent managerial skills;
- A minimum of five years’ applicable practical experience in a process engineering environment;
- Experience in process safety management as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulatory bodies;
- Good interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills in both English and Afrikaans.
Recommendations:
- Experience in facilities management in a process engineering environment at a tertiary education institution;
- Experience in technical asset management.
Commencement of duties: 1 June 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter
