Our client based in Pretoria iscurrently looking to employ a Data Protection Officer. Management of the organizational dataprotection and oversee the POPI and GDPR compliance of the company.

Duties andResponsibilities
• Lead execution and monitoring of the GDPR complianceprogram for the company
• Inform and advise the Firm and employees who carry outprocessing, of their obligations required by Union or Member State data protection provisions
• Develop and execute relevant compliance reports and projects, and monitor such compliancewith relevant data protection laws and company policies, including the assignment ofresponsibilities
• Awareness-raising and training of Firm staff involved in processingoperations, related audits, and internal processes
• Conduct regular audits across theFirm, suppliers, African Agents and Associates to ensure compliance and advice on remediation andpotential issues
• Continuous engagement with all parties to ensure successfulimplementation of compliance initiatives
• Act as the point of contact between the Firmand any Data Protection (DPA) or Supervisory Authorities (SAs)
• Work with the ChiefInformation Officer, Chief Financial Officer and legal to give internal guidance on the impact ofdata protection efforts;
• Monitor, maintain, and review records of all data processingactivities conducted by the Firm
• Provide advice about data protection impact assessmentsand monitor any high-risk processing
• Review the Firm’s agreements and contractswith data processors for data protection terms
• Work with senior leadership tocommunicate with data subjects to inform them about how their data is being processed and the rightsthey have to their data
• Facilitate data breach response and notification procedures
• Be comfortable with performing the duties and tasks of the DPO in an independent manner, asrequired by data protection laws, free of influence from the business
• DPOs will need tohave leadership and project management experience, to be able to request, marshal and lead theresources needed to carry out their roles
• Staying current of events and developments inthe InfoSec sector
• Respond to client InfoSec enquiries where appropriate
•Promote the implementation of compliance best practices and drive general security awareness in theFirm
• Facilitate and monitor internal audits
Qualifications and Experience
• 3 - 5 years’experience in European Union (EU) and global privacy laws, including drafting of privacy policies,SOP’s, technology provisions and outsourcing agreements
• 8 -10 years’experience in information systems auditing, attestation audits and the assessment and mitigation ofrisk
• 8 -10 years’ IT operations experience
• Appropriate Audit and ITqualifications/ certifications
