About the Position

SKA SA is currently seeking to appoint a DevOps developer to automate and support the tools and processes relating to continuous delivery, integration and deployment for science data processing software packages, platforms operating systems and infrastructure.

Minimum education requirement:

- Professionally qualified with a relevant 3 year post-matric qualification

Minimum work experience required:

- A minimum of 5 years' experience in software development and DevOps with experience in development, testing, deployment, commissioning, release and support of open software stack: Linux, Ansible, Jenkins, Docker, Python or such technologies
- Knowledge and experience in Lean approaches to software development ITIL or Six Sigma advantageous

Or

- A minimum of 2 years' post-degree/diploma experience/further education in computer science or applied sciences with experience in development, testing, deployment, commissioning, release and support of software projects
- Knowledge and experience in Lean approaches to software development ITIL or Six Sigma advantageous

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal qualities:

- Desire to continuously learn, problem solve and acquire new skills with cutting edge technology
- Familiarity with JIRA or other task management software packages
- Familiarity with agile software development approaches

Duties Include (but not limited to):

- Build and release maintenance and optimization of software build and release process
-Scripting and automation of manual builds, integration and release tasks
- Support, maintenance and monitoring of DevOps related environments
- Providing and building a scalable production environment
- Research new tools, technologies and best practice
- Pilot new technology implementations

Tasks May Include:

- Occasional after hours support
- Provide expert technical guidance and input
- Consulting with astronomers and system engineering concerning maintenance of DevOps environment systems
- Consulting with system engineering staff to evaluate interface between SDP systems and DevOps
- Directing DevOps systems development and related documentation
- Modifying existing DevOps systems to correct errors, to adapt it to new hardware or to upgrade interfaces and improve performance
- Researching, designing and developing DevOps systems
- Security and incident response
- Patch and software update management
- Conducting research and improving or developing concepts, theories, instrumentation, software and operational methods related to DevOps

Ability

- understand GPU-based architecture
- understand internet concepts, protocols and technologies

- display communication and interpersonal skills

Experience

- DevOps Open Source Stack, tools/packages may include but not limited to: Ansible, Docker, Mesos, Jenkins, FAI, or such equivalents
- Debian-based Linux, preferably Ubuntu
- managing activities of self and/or others
- or certification in ITIL, Six Sigma and Git

Knowledge

- IT Ops/DevOps (ITIL)
- source control and version management software
- SDLC
- Open Source development standards
- scripting and programming language and scientific/math libraries, preferably Python
