Qualifications
The position would suit an engineer who has the following skills and experience:
1. BSc Degree in Engineering (Mechanical)
2. A Government Certificate of Competency
3. At least 8 to 10 years' experience in a continuous process operation, preferably a glass making environment.
Key Accountabilities:
? Plan, direct and coordinate the engineering activities in a glass manufacturing plant, including the design, construction, modification, performance and maintenance of equipment and machinery.
? Day to day tasks include determining standards and policies for installation, modification, quality control, testing, inspection and maintenance, inspecting plant and machinery to ensure optimum performance, directing the maintenance of plant buildings and equipment, scheduling and planning engineering activities.
? Plan, design and oversee the development, installation, operation and maintenance of machinery.
? Conduct research to solve practical engineering problems and to improve efficiency.
? Setting up work control systems.
? Provide assistance and direction to other plant personnel in proper plant procedures and manufacturing methods.
? Provide guidance for preventative and repair maintenance to ensure that plant operations are able to meet output quotas and deadlines.
? Conduct operational tests to ensure that designs fall within the expected specifications.
? Design and improve engineering processes to increase plant production efficiency and quality.
? Perform project management tasks and plan the execution of engineering projects in a designated area of expertise.
? Coordinating equipment selection, interact with contractors and evaluate quotes.
? Provide support to the business to ensure that plant operations meet environmental and safety protocols in a cost-effective manner
? Prepare and control budgets for Plant and department, ensuring that planned cost outcomes are achieved.
? Ensure monthly reporting on costs and engineering performance is met through evaluation of processes.
? Adhere and develop the maintenance philosophy for all plant based on plant requirements.
? Ensure that all engineering activities comply with OHS-act requirements.
? Implement long term training requirements for the engineering teams.
? Implement and control a standard set of plant KPI's and develop strategies to ensure these KPI's are met.
Experience/Skills
? The job holder should:
? Be a competent manager and be able to lead and motivate people.
? Have a high knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques and their application.
? A high level of skill in industrial relations issues is essential.
? Be well experienced in engaging staff within the established company policies and procedures to meet the demands of ongoing and anticipated workloads.
? Have experience in implementing and ensuring OHS-Act requirements are adhered to.
? Demonstrate a proven, successful, hand-on track record in the maintenance of machinery in a production environment.
? Demonstrate a high level of problem solving skills
