One of our clientsbased in Pretoria is seeking a Solutions and Design Architect for a 7 month contract. Possibly ofextension there.

Solutions and Design Architect(one) Thesolutions and design architect will focus on converting requirements into thearchitecture and design that ultimately constitute the blueprint for the solution. The requirementsfor this position are broken down into the headings below.
 
Qualifications
The solutions and design architectshould be TOGAF certified or have an equivalent certification thereto.
 
Experience
The solutions and design architectshould have:

At least five years’ experience in solutionsarchitecture;

Be an ex-developer who has accumulated suchexperience as to reach a good level in expertise. This experience must cover ideally a variety ofplatforms and products, knowledge about the lifecycle of an application, or even of an informationsystem; and

Must have participated in the analysis, design, andimplementation of communication networks including data processing transmissions.


 
Duties
The solutions and design architectwill be required to:

Develop of  the Business, Solution and ICT architectures;

Define and documentthe developed architectures;

Ensure cross-architecture alignment towards solutionimplementation;

Communicate the architectures in an easily understood manner;

Identify andinteract with stakeholders towards the objectives of this project;

Align all deliverables to goodICT governance as defined by global ICT related governance bodies;

Plan for newtechnology insertion;

Manage risk identification and risk mitigationstrategies associated with the architectures; and

Plan the management and version control of allrelated documents created for this project


 
Knowledge
The senior solutions and designarchitect should have:

Knowledge and understanding of the ArchitectureDevelopment Lifecycle (ADLC); and



Strong knowledge of the problem domain that thesystems are meant to provide solutions for;

Have a working knowledge ofcoding and error detection methodologies; and

Understand new technology toapply in business.


 
Skills
The senior solutions anddesign architect should be:

Technically competent in the coreframeworks;

Able to plan for evolutionary paths;



Technicallycompetent in the area of data modelling, communications, transmissions and analyses computersoftware systems, data requirements, response times and computer hardware configurations relative tothe modelling, communication and data transmission requirements;

Able to reviewcommunications local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN) as to their ability to supportdata processing requirements;

Able to analyse an organization’s overallbusiness and establish how their software is used.

Able to assess new softwareapplications to see if they are suitable for an organization and if the current hardware willsupport them.

Abstract the complexity of a system into a manageablemodel that describes the essence of a system by exposing important details and significantconstraints.

Focus on scalability, maintainability, performanceand modularity;

Design high-level view of Systems according to thestandards of the Company.

A strong communicator insofar written, verbal andpresentation skills are concerned;

Able to provide detailed information about cost andbenefits of software to ensure that it will serve the client over a long period; and

Recommend changes to transmission networks, both in terms of hardware devices and switchingpoint required to improve network performance.
