Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

Development and Production Maintenance of mainframe Banking applications

Proactive monitoring of critical applications
Problem and Incident Management
After-hours standby and callout
Analysing and validating business requirements for the specific application
Designing, creating, unit-testing and documenting new and amended systems and programs from supplied functional specifications in accordance with agreed standards.
Effectively applying problem root cause identification techniques
Identifying and implementing preventative maintenance activities
Verifying and applying code quality and improvement techniques

Batch optimization, and, administrative tasks
Proactive mentoring and coaching of lesser experienced resources
Providing guidance and assistance to colleagues in any aspect of program design, creation, testing, problem/incident resolution and documentation
The position will require the applicant to work during normal office hours but also requires commitment to production support activities outside of normal hours.
These activities include standby and callout responsibility (to respond to and resolve production problems when they occur) and overtime work as and when required to resolve critical issues.

Preferred Qualification and Experience:

Grade 12
A recognized COBOL programming diploma (LUSO or VZAP)
A relevant minimum 3 year tertiary qualification in Computer Science or Information Systems would be advantageous

Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise:

Minimum 10+ years’ experience working on mainframe applications using COBOL CICS preferably in a banking environment.

JCL, TSO, COBOL, CICS, VSAM
Strong Relational Database Design Skills
Additional experience using ADABAS is advantageous
Additional experience using Natural is advantageous
Additional experience working within a collaborative team environment is advantageous
Exposure to Agile Methodologies is advantageous
