The Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2 Development Center in Cape Town is looking for talented Systems Engineers. We are responsible for the development, management and operations of the large fleet of servers that make up the core infrastructure of EC2. These systems launch hundreds of thousands of EC2 instances every day and manages millions of resources.

As a Systems Engineer in the EC2 Development Center you will join an industry-leading engineering team solving challenging problems at massive scale and contribute to a range of projects in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment. A key requirement in this role will be your ability to automate systems and processes through scripting and programming.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
8+ years of industry experience in systems administration and software development with a focus on Linux
Excellent communication, prioritization and analytical skills
Expertise in administration of Linux operating systems
Expertise in software and hardware troubleshooting
Proficient with Ruby or Python, capable with Perl, and familiar with C, C++, and Java
Experience with system performance monitoring
Experience with metrics acquisition and analysis, including log processing and regular expressions programming
Experience with databases, MySQL and SQL programming
Knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Xen or other virtualized environments
Experience with network administration
Experience with managing large scale distributed Linux systems
In-depth understanding of internet and operating system security
In-depth understanding of TCP/IP networking and core technologies (DNS, LDAP, NFS, FTP, etc.)
