Role details:
We are urgently looking for a Support Engineer - Storage and Backups (SAN) to join the IT Team of one of our external clients inWoodmead, initial contract with possibility of perm thereafter

Installation, maintain and supportof enterprise SAN and backup/recovery environments.
Design, Implement and maintain complexenterprise storage area networks and data backup and recovery systems primarily those from EMC.
Provide support & technical advice on storage related matters
Respond to enquiries/ queries from staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel and outside vendors and etc.to provide technical assistance and support
Implement and/or coordinate system updates andreplacement of 'old' versions
Ensure SAN disk arrays and SAN networks are operatingoptimally
Manage the day to day operations of the SAN and Backups
Liaising withrelevant 3rd parties and 3rd level engineers towards the resolution of technicalissues
Building & re-building storage environment
Update relevant software andfirmware.

Administration

Conduct Administration of SANto ensure that there enough capacity to meet current and future business requirements.
Provision of storage space based on server or application needs.
Ensure that back-upsare performed in accordance to the requirements and schedules.
Ensure that restores areperformed in accordance to the requirements.

Monitoring

Monitor SAN events & ensure compliance with Security Policy
Monitor and Remediationof Backups and SAN issues
Monitor Operational systems including SAN networks (Switches, HBAetc.)


Monitor and Troubleshoot storage related performance issues
Conduct spotting of trends across regions and client base and feeding back observations andassessments to the company’s management team
Maintain network operations,applications and operating systems.
Process any follow up action
Perform all callresolutions related to assigned areas
Develop standard operating procedures (SOP’s)for 1st and 2nd level support
Ensure Compliance with all Operation policies andinstructions
Ensure Compliance with all service management system reporting and ticketupdate requirements


Monitor SAN controllers and ensure that they are operatingoptimally


Develop & maintain SAN and Backup support and relateddocumentation
Prepare technical reports on the operation of systems

Customer Service

Respond timeously to customer queries and toprovide feedback
Update customers on the progress of data updates both daily andmonthly.
Actively find ways to improve customer service
Provide customer serviceas per agreed SLA’s

Performance Contracts

Participate in annual contracting process, agree and sign required documentation
Participate in quarterly performance management process / reviews

 
Skills Development

Ensure learningsolutions are identified, proposed and implemented according to on-going personal and teamdevelopment plans.
Negotiate training and development requirements with manager

MS Office Suite
Virtualization(VMware)
SAN (EMC,Brocade)
HP Data Protector
Server hardware (HP)
Solid Windows operatingsystem (OS) knowledge.
Solid knowledge on Windows processing hardware.
SolidWindows GUI and command line knowledge.
Understand Operator and/or Production Supportand/or Application support roles
