ROLESUMMARY
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible foreffective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of Network relatedinfrastructure. This individual will be responsible for the design and implementing of networkarchitectures, LAN internetworking and LAN-to-WAN connections.
 
The incumbent will be responsible for the Groups Networks and will dealwith:
The day to daytechnical issues and support of the infrastructure;
  Proactively researches and locate necessary toolsand processes to identify and proactively avert troublesome trends as they develop;
Ensures a stable performance environmentfor the enterprise communication system;
Design and plan network engineering modernisations and provide specificationsand detailed schematics for network architecture; and
Create and document all network processes and keep documentationupdated as processes and services change.
Participate in a variety of planning and development activities, includingcommittees for the purpose of creating short and long term plans for support to the businessdivisions.
 
The incumbent will further provide supportfor the following systems including but not limited to: HP switches and Infrastructure, CiscoRouters, WAN Optimisation, QOS solutions, Network Reticulation and Network related software andadministrative and reporting tools.
 
KEY WORK OUTPUT ANDACCOUNTABILITIES
Engineering and Provisioning

Manage and plan IP addresses deployment in thecompany.
Apply designsolutions to various environments found within different business divisions.
Install new / rebuild existing networks andconfigure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, VLAN's, software, etc. in accordance withstandards and project/operational requirements.
Configures, tests, and maintains LAN/WAN equipment and related services.
Apply network securityprinciples to secure the company’s data and networks. 
Maintain installation and configurationprocedures.
Contribute to andmaintain System and Network standards.
Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for systemadministration tasks.
Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
Plan new site deployment with different3rd party service providers.
Enforce change control processes.

 
Operations and Support

Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of allnetworks, system resources and key processes, reviewing system and network logs, and verifyingcompletion of scheduled jobs.
Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
Identify, diagnose, and resolve networkproblems.
Create, maintainand support network VLAN's, ports and configurations.
Provide Tier 3/other support per request from various departments andbusiness units. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
Repair and recover from network or system failures.  Coordinateand communicate with line management.
Manage 3rd party WAN service provider and work with their network engineers to resolve WANrelated problems.
Respond toinquiries from a variety of sources.
Consult on expansion and renovations of sites where network infrastructure isaffected.

 
Maintenance

Apply patches, upgrades and firmware revisions on a regular basis, and upgradeadministrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
Upgrade and configure system software and hardwarethat supports the infrastructure and networks as per project or operational needs.
Maintain operational, configuration, orother procedures.
Maintainsystems and networks environmental equipment for the sites.

 
Building stakeholder relationships

Interface with Information ManagementTeam and IT Technical team to define and create infrastructure services and solutions in line withbusiness requirements.
Communicate with hospitals and other divisions to enforce standards and consult whenassistance is needed.
Interface with 3rd party vendors to ensure operational service delivery is achieved andmaintained.

 
PeopleManagement

Perform operations as part of the technical Infrastructure team
Mentor and involve junior team members and providein house training as required.
Ensure that the Infrastructure team meets the agreed incident, problem and service levelagreements.
Adhere to teamplans for Projects as required, manage own deliverables and timeframes to ensure that the teamdeliver to committed tasks and projects deadlines.

 
 
SKILLSPROFILE
EDUCATION

HP Networking Master ASE.
 Cisco CCNA or CCDA.
 An Advanced National Diploma or a Degree with Network relatedcertifications at NQF level 7.

WORKEXPERIENCE

Minimum 6 - 12 years in Network administration orsimilar network role.
 Minimum 4 - 8 years working with HP \ Aruba switches. 

KNOWLEDGE

Network Architecture andDesign.
WAN optimisationusing Riverbed technologies.
Network consulting skills.
Wireless network architecture and design.
NAC architecture, design and deployment. 
Interoperability with other vendordevices.
Expert knowledge ofTCP\IP protocol.
Expertunderstanding of routing protocols.
