Role details:
To provide services ensuring the availability and day-to-day operation, scheduling and technical support of the technical infrastructure/computer systems and peripherals in the Data Centre environment

Key Deliverables / Primary Functions
• Maintain the configuration management system, including the configuration management database (CMDB). This includes the investigation of all defects and problems and reporting outcomes (i.e. clearance, cancellation or concession) against the CIs, the control and documentation of the analysis, implementation, review and testing of proposed changes to all CIs and structures, the control and documentation of the re-release of changed items, customisation of proprietary tools, and maintenance of a document reference library for current and archived versions of document CIs.
• Assist in planning and monitoring utilisation and capacity for current and proposed systems. Assist in investigating, diagnosing and resolving problems as directed.
• Assist with the production of schedules of requests for change (RFC) for managing changes to the live infrastructure. Transcribe data on to the change management database, carry out simple enquiries on the status of changes, contact clients/users to raise queries and provide information, and circulate change documentation to a defined distribution of clients/users.
• Coordinate computer operations by carrying out the full range of defined tasks associated with operating and controlling of installed hardware and software on a continual basis. Delegate specific tasks and responsibility, as and when appropriate.
• Install or remove hardware and/or software (typically those requiring greatest expertise in installation) by using supplied installation instructions and tools and following agreed standards.
• Carry out system testing, document failures and successes and report on test results.
• Carry out defined tasks associated with the planning, installation, upgrade, operation control and maintenance of systems.
• Investigate, diagnose and resolve outages in accordance with service level agreements.
• Provide user support to recover or continue operations. Prioritise resolutions, monitor progress and apply escalation procedures for problems not progressing satisfactorily.
• Manage the implementation and coordination functions related to Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery operations within the support environment.
• Manage interfacing with cross functional teams, auditors and customers
• Maintain project management deployments, review processes and procedures
• Configuration and maintenance of software and equipment for the platform specific versions of operating systems, software, tools, drivers and firmware products
• Manage the configuration of documentary items and documentation project files, in alignment with policies and procedures
• Manage corporate data requirements, documenting them according to the required standards utilising the prescribed methods and tools ensuring data integrity and security
• Frequently search technical literature, read relevant articles and gain an up-to-date knowledge of any relevant field within information systems
• Plan, test organise service improvements and automation to the environment

Qualifications
Relevant Diploma (NQF 6) in Information Technology or Computer Science or similar

Alternatively, Grade 12 (NQF 4) with IT certification with extensive high level technical skills

Extensive High level Technical skills with 3rd party software, Operating system, Hypervisor, Installation methods and patch upgrades, Programming and script writing and data analysing
