Risk and Control Objective:

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.

Overall Job Purpose

The Network Engineer’s role is to ensure uninterrupted communications throughout the computing environment by identifying voice (both land line and mobile) and data network requirements; designing solutions; installing upgrades; and, monitoring security and network performance

The Network Engineer’s scope includes:
Meeting Internet working service requirements for switched telephone networks, mobile networks and maintaining the hardware and software required to support it Designing and managing computer networks Developing telecommunications network topologies The Network Engineer is accountable for Installing, configuring, and supporting Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), and internet system or a segment of a network system Consistent, reliable performance of the Organization’s network in keeping with agreed-upon Service Level (SLAs) and Operating Level (OLA) Agreements.
The Network Engineer has lead accountability for ensuring consistency across data, voice, and mobile networks Plan & Organise Assist in the preparation of plans related to networking projects Assist in identifying future requirements and potential improvements to the availability of network systems and services.
Produce networking project status reports on timely basis Establish network specifications by conferring with users and understanding their requirements.
Plan and prepare for systems installation, implementation and handover.
Plan, coordinate and implement network security measures in order to protect data, software and hardware.
Develop Networking technical standards and procedures including topology. Plan voice and data network by evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, good put, and latency; planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defining network policies and procedures; establishing connections and firewalls.

Acquire & Implement

Spearhead the upgrade network by conferring with vendors; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.
Coordinate with vendors, analyse appropriate product offering and develop new products and services for network Cost optimization of all services Delivery & Support Install and configure the selected network solution.
Staging, configuration, implementation, and support for Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) installations as necessary Secure data and voice network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; develop and maintain documentation for the same.
Test network functionality and performance including VoIP installations.
Prepare users by designing and conducting training programs; providing references and support.
Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environment including VoIP and PSTN (Public Switched Telephony Network) related network installations, including hardware, system software, applications software, and all configuration.
Manage the network related IT / technology security requirements Gather and document relevant information for the effective monitoring of network systems and services availability.
Maintain tools and processes related to network monitoring including remote monitoring.
Execute the installation plan(s) of selected network(s) Implement strategy and standards, and manage the team for project execution and control activities.
Manage systems installation, implementation and handover.
Manage external relationships during systems installation, implementation and Handover.
Manage all engineering projects for all initiatives, plan technology roadmaps, configuration and optimization of all aspects of network equipment and services Contribute to preparing for IT / technology network design and planning activities Carry out IT / technology architecture activities in the areas of the network architecture in collaboration with the technical architect.
Provide solutions for complex network related requirements / issues.
Contribute to information activities relating to IT / technology architecture models.
Manage the upkeep of all network services and end-to-end mapping into Barclays systems.

Monitor & Evaluate

Maintain network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning.
Ensure that all the employees adhere to network policies and procedures.
Gather and collate information concerning problems and problem resolutions to identify Trends / root cause(s).
Oversee the acceptance, certification and handover of new hardware and software deployed in the live environment, including the design, configuration, related infrastructure set up and operational or administration documentation.
Ensure that the installation of data and voice network solution is in keeping with the business and technical needs.
Monitor the performance of computer systems / networks.

Monitor and report on the quality and effectiveness of service operations to meet business and organisational objectives / targets.
Monitor network to ensure network availability and capacity to all system users.
Monitor expenses and submit information for budget.
Review and identify improvements to service operations activities.

Education and Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree in Information Sciences related field compulsory.
CCNA Certification (or Equivalent), compulsory.
CCNP Certification (or Equivalent), compulsory.
Minimum 8 years’ Information Technology experience.
Minimum 8 years’ Network Administration and implementation experience.
Minimum 5 years’ Experience with diagnostic tools used for problem determination and resolution.

Expertise in Network Management.
Expertise in Quality Assurance.
Expertise in Service Level Management.
Experience in people and performance management
