Overall Job Purpose:The Global Information Security (GIS) Shared Services group consists of a team of Security Engineers split between various locations across the UK, Singapore, India, New Jersey and South Africa, with the global team head being based in London and reporting directly to the Barclays Chief Information Security Officer in New Jersey.
The GIS Shared Services group is responsible for the delivery of global standard solutions for use across all of Barclays Group.
Within this group the Shared Services team is responsible for the overall strategy for all core infrastructure security technologies, ensuring that this strategy is aligned to the broader Security domain strategy, and also for the evaluation, engineering, design and deployment of new core security technologies.
This role is for a security engineer who will be delivering core information security technologies for use across Barclays AFRICA.
Key accountabilities of this job holder will be:
Assist with the evaluation, design and delivery of major new core security technologies across Barclays AFRICA.
Using technical experience and knowledge of the Barclays Group business and processes, implement innovative solutions designed to improve the Group’s information security posture, increase operational efficiencies and reduce operational costs
Assisting the core information security technology strategy, showing appreciation for the challenges presented by different business units and geographies making up the whole of Barclays Group, and work with other technology architects to ensure alignment to broader architecture strategies.
Support and Maintain the core information security technology (50%):
Support and maintain the security infrastructure for core information security technologies.
Assist with the evaluation, design and delivery of major new security technologies (15%):
Assist with high-level requirements from teams across GIS and GTIS to create specific requirements for new core information security technology capabilities.
Assist with vendor product analysis including the management of RFP, evaluation and proof of concept processes in order to select new products that best meet the agreed requirements and Barclays AFRICA operational model.
Support technology projects to deploy new security services.
Support virtual project teams (35%):
Provide input to Identify the most effective AFRICA solution based on business requirements, cost and supportability, and ensure timely delivery of an integrated solution
Escalate project risks up the line and make suggestions to mitigate obstacles to delivery.
Education and Experience Required:
NQF Level 5: Higher Diploma
Proven education and experience Information Technology
1-2 years’ experience in Security related Infrastructure
2 years’ experience in supporting Security hardware infrastructure
1-2 years’ experience in Security technology and processes
Knowledge & Skills: (Maximum of 6)
Demonstrably strong knowledge of one or more of Windows desktop or server platforms, UNIX server platforms or networking
Deep understanding of the security mechanisms associated with one or more of Windows or Unix operating systems, IP networks, web based applications and databases is essential
Previous experience of working in an information security architecture, engineering or project delivery function
Knowledgeable about existing best practices for integration of security controls
Able to make technology recommendations supported by documented results of vendor product assessments and technical evaluations
Able to work independently with limited management oversight, but with sufficient experience to know when to escalate issues or concerns
Prior, hands-on experience with host security controls such as PGP, Skybox, CyberArk, SPLUNK, VONTU, MVM, CCS and Lumension Endpoint Security a strong plus
Knowledge of one or more scripting or programming language (UNIX shell, perl, PowerShell, .Net) for the purposes of automation or integration a distinct advantage
