The company is a not for profit, charitable trust with a focus on women’s empowerment. Its programmes seek to bring sustainable change to poor rural women and their households. The Trust has two main programmes, Siyakhula – the developmental micro-finance programme assisting poor women to grow their survivalist enterprises, and Zenzele, focussed on assisting very poor households to access existing services provided for their benefit by government and NGOs. The Trust has undergone, and continues to undergo, significant refocusing in its programmes and support thereof, as part of the reshaping of the support functions the Trust is looking for an energetic, committed and disciplined individual, to work within our finance team. The individual must be flexible as the environment is ever changing with expectations that once the Siyakhula programme is re-launched the transactional volume processed will ramp up significantly.The responsibilities of the Finance manager will include, but not be limited to the following:
Manage, implement and maintain sound financial systems for The Trust
Ensure structure and rigour within the finance department
Implement rigorous control environment for the Trust, and in particular, in respect of the micro-finance lending activities
Draft and maintain relevant accounting policies and procedures
Drive the annual budgeting process and monthly reporting
Participate in treasury and finance strategies formulation and implementation
Participate in working capital management
Prepare the group consolidation
Prepare an annual work plan
Supervise, develop and coach other finance team members
Drive effective internal communications within the finance team, as well as across the organisation on financial matters
Interact appropriately with internal and external stakeholders
Manage the accounting department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and functions for the group
Reporting
Prepare monthly financial and management reports
Ensure timeliness, accuracy and usefulness of financial and management reports
Prepare monthly management accounts per unit with variance analysis
Prepare quarterly reports for board sub-committees
Prepare for and co-ordinate the external audit
Prepare and submit all statutory and tax returns timeously
Planning and analysis
Prepare and update annual and 3 year budgets and forecasts
Monitor actual spend against the budget and prepare monthly variance reports
Provide input into cash flow planning to ensure that internal liquidity, working capital, and any external requirements are met
Implement cash, investment and asset management as required
Develop forward looking predictive models and financial analyses to provide insight into the organisations operations
Risk management and compliance
Provide input and manage aspects of the risk management policy
Prepare and analyse risk reports
Developing financial management mechanisms that minimise financial risk
Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures
Assist with ensuring that the company complies with the Companies’ Act, National Credit Regulator, SARS, Masters’ Office and all other relevant legal and regulatory requirements
Assist with designing and maintaining the delegation of authorities
Assist with ensuring good corporate governance
Manage supplier / vendor contracts and relationships as appropriate
Review all new supplier contracts with due diligence
Implement internal controls to ensure compliance with the law, regulations and good governance
