Role details:
Company in Sandton is looking to expand their Software Release team working under the supervision of the Project Director. The Release Manager will own the Release Management lifecycle which includes scheduling, coordinating and the management of releases from inception to deployment for multiple applications. The releases can be inclusive of application updates, operating system patches, security improvements and hardware upgrades. Where necessary the Manager will provide tools and services to help deploy releases into production.

Salary: R 600 K – R 650 K per annum or R 50 000 – R 54 000 per month

Qualifications:

• B.Sc (Computer Science); B.Com (Information systems); or relevant qualification

Experience:
• Minimum 3 solid years as a Software Release Manager
• Knowledge and experience in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
• Experience in Microsoft Technologies including:
o Team Foundation Server 2010 and up
o Windows Server 2008
o Windows Server 2012
o Visual Studio 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013
o Microsoft C# & VB
o Microsoft .Net framework
o IIS 7 and 8
• Minimum 3 years software development experience
• Knowledge and Experience using and managing Source Control:
o Subversion
o Tortoise SVN
o Source Safe
• MS Office
• Software release management tools
• Basic project management skills
• Support: root cause analysis
• Clear understanding of Active Directory User access
• Clear understanding of VLANs

Duties:

• To work with relevant stakeholders and the team to carefully plan, design and deploy projects in a coherent way.
• To ensure that the various component projects of a software release meet customer needs.
• To ensure software releases reflects the best choices for the company in terms of cost, time, quality and scope.
• To manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality.
• To perform together with project managers, development team and system administrators for development, evaluation, and test and launch phases of software development life cycle.
• To configure and release software application updates.
• To collect and provide ongoing feedback on software releases to the Change Management committee.
• To develop appropriate reporting tools and information repository to measure conformance to entire processes and utilization of tools through monthly metrics.
• To lead and direct collaborative efforts of release management standards together with the Architect.
• To identify new tools and technologies to develop release streams and builds
• To perform routine project activities required to manage release in the various IT environments within the company.
• To manage and compile release schedule and main release milestones throughout programs.
• To search and report product release dependencies throughout projects.
• To lead impact evaluation on basis of project date changes and convey results.
• To ensure teams follow the company’s established policies and procedures.
• To provide management reports on release progress.
• To manage release package design, build and configuration.
• To manage release package acceptance including business sign off.
• To manage service, roll out planning including method of deployment.
• To manage release package testing to predefined acceptance criteria.
• To sign off the release package for implementation.
• To perform audits on hardware and software before and after the implementation of release package changes.
• To manage the storage and traceability/auditability of software versions and associated documentation.
• To manage the Team Foundation Server (TFS) environment including the source code, access rights, access levels, TFS integrity checks, source control structuring, creation and deletion of branches, code merging, and to ensure backups are made.
• To coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) environment usage and UAT environment scheduling.
• To restrict access setup via Active Directory and VLAN incorporation
