Role details:
The Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT), located in the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHED), invites applications from skilled and passionate software developers for this permanent position.

Requirements include:- A Bachelors’ degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (Computer Science or Information Systems), OR any Bachelors’ degree and a postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline, OR 6 years’ professional experience in software development.
- 3 years’ experience in developing web-based applications and related technologies.
- Demonstrated competence in client-side web development using HTML, CSS and Javascript and at least one server-side programming language (for example Java, Python, or Ruby), and familiarity with XML, JSON and relational databases.
- Competent professional communications skills.
Experience in one or more of these areas would be advantageous:
- supporting online learning environments in a higher education
- e-learning experience in another context
- experience with audio and video technologies and lecture capture systems.
Responsibilities include:
Developing, customising and supporting:
- the Vula online learning environment (built on the Sakai Project),
- the Opencast lecture capture system, and
- other e-learning tools hosted by CILT.
The annual remuneration package for 2016, including benefits, is negotiable between R394 026 and R463 559.
