Role details:
PURPOSE:
•Responsible for the operational support and management of all aspects of the hypervisor environment (Vmware and skilled in other). This includes the support and reporting on servers, terminal servers, networks, application virtualization and local storage elements where applicable. Must be able to troubleshoot and resolve software, hardware, configuration and operational problems across the enterprise cloud platforms. In this role you will also provide technical expertise to support the physical and virtual platform and focus on continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the environment. Knowledge of multiple vendor technologies and platforms including Microsoft, VMware, Linux and hardware exposure on the IBM and Cisco hardware platforms is definitely and advantage.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Provide operational support and problem resolution of the entire physical and virtualization infrastructure environment which includes building, install, configuring and maintaining Vmware products, Microsoft products, Monitoring tools (Zabbix, SCCM, SCOM), and capacity management tools as part of the Enterprise Cloud environment.
•Management of service constituencies associated to the Enterprise Cloud environment.
•Follow, and enforce, established enterprise class change management protocol in alignment ITIL 3 standards.
•Ensure administration and documentation be kept up to date as to ensure operational governance is consistently adhered to.
•Participate in business continuation / disaster recovery infrastructure planning, building, and testing of such efforts.
•Manage and report on new implementations, lifecycle management, patch management, optimization and service improvement efforts.
•Research and report on root cause analysis and escalate to management.
•Develop, automate and implement industry and operations best practices.
•Perform capacity management in both physical and virtual environments.
•Must have the ability to understand and relate to new products, technology and strategy, and be able to follow direction from team leader and management.
•Strong communication skills required and the ability to conduct training sessions to share knowledge with peers and other support teams.
•Demonstrates good planning and organisational skills to prioritise to meet deadline and cope with fluctuations in workload.
•Experience with storage technologies including SAN, NAS & DAS and advantage.
•Liaise and work across server / storage / networks / security / facilities / AMS / data centre and other teams. Good communication ability an advantage.
•Some travel may be required from time to time. Willingness to travel.
•Available to work outside of normal business hours to fulfil production and project needs, provide 24/7 on-call support on a rotating basis.
•Provide a level of project management capability that includes planning, documenting and the execution of projects.

Job Requirements -

EDUCATION

•Post-Secondary Certificate in Microsoft and VMWare
•Minimum Certifications/Accreditations
•Certification: MCITP/MCSE, VMWare

EXPERIENCE:

•Advanced technical knowledge of Vmware and Microsoft technologies and associated product sets with at least 6 years’ experience with these products.
•3+ years’ relevant Data Centre production Processes and Procedures exposure which includes ITIL3 governance and change process protocol.
•Strong administrative and documentation skill with excellent written and oral communication a must.
•Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline intensive environment.
•Significant experience in implementing and maintaining Microsoft Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003, 2008 and 2012, Including DNS, DHCP, VLAN administration.
•Technical knowledge of Cisco and IBM hardware platforms, particularly the X-series servers and UCS blade technologies.
•Technical ability to move workloads and upgrade firmware on server platforms.
•Knowledge of windows scripting or some programming skills.
•Experience with Local Area Network and Wide Area Networks.
•Experience with General Network Infrastructure (switching, firewalls, cabling).
•Firewall understanding and configurations associated to remote access (VPN) and the opening of ports on OS, as part of troubleshooting
•Self-motivated and strong organizational skills a must.
