JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Provide Java/Web back and front end applications tailor made for specific division needs
• Maintain and support existing and new applications
• Required to communicate clearly in English, verbally and written
• Operate within the context of the global IT Development organisation
MIN REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in software development in Java, any others an advantage
• Min 2 year Diploma (with significant Software Development element) ; IT related Degree an advantage
• 5 or more years' experience in Java desktop (Swing) and web application development
• Experience using core Java APIs (Collections framework, I/O, Threading)
• Strong front-end development experience using Angular (preferable), Java Server Pages and Servlets
• Strong RDBMS experience, including database design and SQL
• Solid Spring framework experience
• Strong ORM framework experience (Hibernate/Spring Data JPA, etc.)
• Min 2 years Application Server experience, e.g. Tomcat/JBoss/Glassfish/WebLogic
• Experience in VCS (preferably Git)
• Solid knowledge of Java build tools such as Maven/Gradle

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Must be able to grasp multiple requirements and many possible implications at once
• Must be able to judge time scales involved when developing new or maintaining old applications
• Must be able to work on multiple applications at once, keeping concentration and constantly assessing all implications
• Vigilance and accuracy is a must. So called ‘bugs’ must be found and fixed speedily (preferably ‘never’ occur)
• Reliability of applications written or maintained as well as future support of said applications
• Building and deployment using ANT as well as implications such as environment variable settings etc. must be mastered
• Needs to be proactive in identifying and repairing system inconsistencies, which could lead to down time and application outages and in-turn could affect the profitability of the business.
• Understand and respond appropriately to the needs of clients who are encountering systems difficulties related to deployed software or other outside influences.
• Proactively manage user expectations on the progress of their applications, including confirmation of user satisfaction upon completion and escalate issues as appropriate to IT Management in a timely manner
