NARGA is a division that provides Information and Communication Technology services to all students within the Science and AgriScience Faculties, to enable students to succeed in their studies.

Duties:

- Students and Lecturers:
a. Providing support to students and lecturers experiencing technical problems – including after-hours support with examinations and tests.
- Administrative:
a. Handling and reporting day-to-day tasks in NARGA (including upgrading and installation of new computers);
b. Scheduling timetables;
c. Managing safety and security issues in NARGA venues. Acting as overall safety representative of all NARGA venues;
d. Completing ad hoc tasks necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the Computer Users Area (RGA) and lecture rooms, and rendering essential services by :
i. Maintaining stores and their content;
ii. Moving equipment as requested;
iii. Entering the necessary budget items and requisitions into the financial system as requested;
iv. Rendering assistance regarding the general maintenance and operation of NARGA as requested;
e. Checking on the general tidiness of lecture rooms and submitting reports where necessary.
- Technical:
a. Ensuring that all computer equipment in all NARGA’s rooms (Main CUA rooms, Satellite CUA rooms, kiosks and lecture rooms) are in working order;
b. Checking that lecture room equipment (projectors, screens, chairs, desks, lighting, air conditioning, sound equipment, batteries, etc;) is always in working order and reporting problems if necessary:
c. Standardising of computer equipment, software and procedures in lecture rooms;
d. Offering full-time assistance during classes to solve technical problems (hard- and software) which may occur during this time without any delay;
e. Rendering assistance in NARGA lecture rooms during office hours;
f. Assisting with providing management info regarding all rooms;
g. Providing a multimedia service to users during seminars, conferences, etc.;
h. Complete management of all NARGA’s printers. General maintenance, stock management on paper and cartridges.

Requirements:

- Excellent knowledge of Information and Communication Technology and understanding the teaching process:
a. Applicable NQF 7 qualification, e.g. a degree in Mathematical Sciences, Information Systems or Engineering;
b. Applicable Information and Communication Technology experience of at least one year.
- Experience in scripting, as well as program languages such as Powershell, Java and C++;
- Strong, proven computer skills;
- The ability to solve technical problems independently;
- Excellent language and communication skills (Afrikaans and English);
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Good organising skills.

Recommendations:

- User support experience of at least two years;
- A+ and/or N+ qualifications;
- Experience and basic knowledge of Linux.
