Benefits:

Role details:
GreatSoft designs, develops and provides ongoing implementation support and consulting for Accounting, Database and Professional Practice Management solutions. We have been a leading supplier to the Southern African Accounting profession for over 20 years. Our current solutions are developed using a combination of ASP.NET and VB.NET for Applications and MS SQL Server.

GreatSoft requires a Developer to work in a programming and technical support role. The candidate will be a member of the GreatSoft development team, designing and developing Practice Management systems in VB.NET to run on SQL Server databases. The candidate will be responsible for writing source code based on designs approved by management. This will include undertaking research tasks, programming, supporting acceptance testers with problems they encounter in testing the software, etc.

The ideal person for this role will be a person requiring limited supervision and with about 2-5 years (or longer) software development and/or software implementation and support experience, preferably in the Financial accounting and database environment using Windows applications. The person will have good communication and interpersonal skills.

Broadly speaking, the role is to work in the Development team on all technical aspects of the designing, developing and modifying software applications. The term “technical” is used to refer to a mix of work that is more oriented towards the software, the architecture, programming, testing and deployment issues, rather than the “business” side of the implementation. However, the business and technical issues are closely related and have considerable overlap, so the developer will benefit from exposure to both.

The main requirement, then, is for a self-motivated technical all-rounder. What is not required is a highly technical specialist. Where required training in the GreatSoft applications, processes and associated tools, etc. will be given on-the-job, but the developer will also have to be successful at self-training.

The developer will not be required to consult or assist with the implementation of software at the client sites, but may be required to make onsite visits from time to time where required to assist with user acceptance testing and debugging of software faults and issues.

Main tasks:
• Analysis, design and development of enhancements and modifications as set out by the Product managers. This will include database processes, server or client PC procedures, installation routines, etc.
• Draft technical specifications of software modifications requested, in conjunction with the Development team.
• On-site investigation of software defects will be limited to pilot sites conducting user acceptance testing. This may include hands on testing, preparation of test plans, feature lists and other documentation for the Client, training of the Client’s testing staff, and on-going support of testing teams.
• Data conversion: analysis, design and programming using VB.NET, SQL and other relevant tools.
