Senior Network Technician

Duties:

- Network design, configuration and establishing standards for copper, radio and fibre networks;
- Network installations and maintenance;
- Network support for copper, radio and fibre networks;
- Providing network and computer support and training for University staff and students;
- Making recommendations for network standards, design, configuration and equipment;
- Configuring, administrating and documenting the campus network infrastructure and components;
- Configuring, administrating and documenting IP-based communication systems on campus;
- Preparing and presenting technical training and work sessions for colleagues, staff and students of the University;
- Assisting in compiling self-help guides to empower colleagues, staff and students to help themselves;
- Staying abreast of current technology and trends through self-study, testing and research;
- Handling and documenting tasks and requests according to standard operating procedures.

Requirements:

- A two-year, network or computer associated qualification, OR network or computer associated training, for example A+, N+, MCSE, MCITP, etc.;
- At least three years’ experience in computer network support for copper, radio and fibre networks;
- Thorough understanding of network technology and computer architecture;
- Thorough understanding of radio network technology;
- Thorough understanding of Microsoft/Linux/iOS and Android operating systems;
- The ability to independently and expediently solve network and computer related problems;
- Thorough understanding of IP-based communication systems such as Skype for Business, Openscape Voice, etc.;
- The ability to work in a team, as well as to be independent, self-driven and confident;
- The ability to empower team members, users and students through knowledge sharing and solutions to improve efficiency;
- Effective time management and the ability to prioritise scheduled and unscheduled tasks;
- The ability to manage stress in a changing environment;
- Availability and willingness to work overtime with compensation.

Recommendations:

- Huawei, Cisco, HP or other relevant network certifications;
- Knowledge and experience in network monitoring;
- Knowledge and experience in SIP and VoIP.
