A company in Sandton (Illovo) is looking for a skilled SQL Data Services Manager.
Overall, this person will be responsible for leading data architecture, database administration, data integration and data services platforms for Data Services, Business Intelligence and Data Governance. The Data Services Manager is hands on technical expert who will ensure that the data integration platforms and architecture are maintained and services delivered meets the business demand
Education:
• BSc degree in IT or higher

Skills:
• Designing and the review of data processes and meta data; and providing solutions regarding data (together with the IT Architect) to ensure that the business requirements are met.
• Maintaining and upgrading the database and data integration platforms, to an error free and optimum performance state.

Technical:
• Knowledge of logical and physical database modeling concepts and techniques
• Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Knowledge of database performance factors, monitoring tools and tuning procedures
• Knowledge of relational database design and implementation
• Microsoft SQL Server experience (SQL 2008/2012/2014) with Transact-SQL, writing of stored procedures, views, triggers, common table expressions, windowing functions, creating indexes and constraints
• Thorough knowledge of SQL Server 2008/2012/2014 features including Service Broker, Change Data Capture, Table Partitioning, Replication, and Data Compression
• Knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services
• BI/DW systems design and development
• Crystal Reports and SQL Reports (SSRS) experience

Tasks:
• To perform database administration.
• To provide leadership over business intelligence (BI) /data warehouse (DW) and operational data store implementations and solutions.
• To work in conjunction with end-user and other relevant stakeholders to define data business needs.
• To be responsible for Extract Transform Load (ETL) design, and implementation of data loading processes.
• To manage delivery of DW/BI solutions (portals, dashboards, standard and ad-hoc reporting) with a specific focus on data governance, operational data store and DW architecture.
• To support, maintain, and monitor current ETL processes.
• To conduct root cause analysis and resolve production problems and data issues.
• To lead efforts to develop and improve procedures for database performance monitoring and proactive intervention using appropriate tools.
• To oversee technical support of all database technologies including monitoring, reporting, patching, troubleshooting and code deployment.
• To be responsible for defining and enforcing policies, processes, standards and best practices for development, integration services, and database administration.
• To assist with the design of redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery to ensure effective availability, protection, and integrity of data assets.
• To ensure that the company IT maintains a highly available and secure database environment.
• To work with the Architect, Project Managers, and Business Analysts to communicate the impact of technical decisions on:
o Scope;
o Resourcing needs;
o Requirements needs; and
o The impact of the changes.

Reference for this position is Data Services Manager which is a permanent position based in Sandton Illovo offering a salary of R 45 000 per month with Pension fund and Medical Aid (11%).
