Job Purpose

To provide services ensuring the availability and day-to-day operation, technical support of the technical infrastructure/ SAN and Storage subsystems and peripherals in the Data Centre environment

Job Objectives

•The position is for a Senior Systems Engineer in the storage space:
•Admin of SAN and storage infrastructure at a client site.
•Basic problem solving of storage issues using the various tool sets available.
•Provide general technical feedback on systems to the customer and 3rd party service providers.
•Co-operate with sales and support personnel on customer requirements and needs.
•Assist junior and new staff members in technical functions.
•Take cognisance of industry compliance requirements.
•Be aware of changes in clients operational and medium to long term objectives and ICT requirements
•Be aware of SLA / OLA requirements.
•Awareness of emerging and current technologies.

•Practical experience with storage virtualization
•Capacity management
•Research and services improvement
•SAN deployments, updates, zoning, problem solving, etc.
•Storage reclaims and mapping
•Some experience with updating firmware
•Incident, request and change management experience
•Problem solving skills
•Logging faults and following up with Vendors
•Standby and own transportation
•The ability to work unsupervised
•Documentation/Technical Authoring/Report writing
•Interpersonal skills
•Conflict management skills


The following is optional:

•Understanding of hypervisors such as VMware, Hyper-V, KVM
•Understanding of Windows and AIX
•Scripting experience



Job Requirements

EDUCATION

•NQF 4 (Matric)
•Certifications and/or a minimum of three years’ experience in SAN, entry level to enterprise storage and storage

EXPERIENCE

•3 – 5 years in an IT environment
•Technical skills in the following: •EMC Storage
•HP Storage
•IBM Storage
•SAN Management
