Job Purpose:

The Data Source Development Director is a technically proficient and highly skilled business leader who along with the Data Source Development team is responsible for developing the processes and tools ensuring that the business secures and receives clean and efficient data feeds from its varied data sources across the business, enabling the efficient processing of all data within the AppOrbis platform.

The Director has strong relationship building and people management skills, and works with the internal Operations Team in order to identify and understand the inefficiencies within current data sources. The Director then together with the Commercial Team engages with the identified data sources’ IT department or ERP partner or may direct his/her team to assist with the process in order to secure, resolve and set-up clean and efficient data feeds into the platform. The Director is required to travel across the regions and engage with the necessary clients and/or data sources in order to secure, set-up and resolve the identified data sources and issues as required.

The Director has an in-depth knowledge of data integration, EDI, ERP, Finance Systems and enterprise architecture, and once inefficiencies in current and new data sources are identified, applies his/her extensive knowledge in order to problem solve and identify solutions by putting together a strategy and technical plan for action.

In order to execute on technical plans the Director works together with the Commercial team, and engages with clients in order to leverage the client data source relationships and gain access to the data source as identified. The Director professionally communicates, presents and explains the businesses data source needs and requirements ensuring both understanding and buy-in from the client and/or data source as required.
As the head of the Data Source Development Department the Director is responsible for managing and overseeing a team of technical specialist in the execution of the Data Source strategy and technical plans across the DataOrbis regions. The Director is involved in recruiting, training and developing the team members and is responsible for planning, executing and supervising their tasks and assignments, reviewing progress and evaluating results to ensure clean and efficient feeds of data as per the actioned plans.

As a member of the global executive team the Data Source Development Director has an in-depth knowledge of the DataOrbis business and industry and as the business evolves and grows in its current and new territories is responsible for identifying further potential data source opportunities to evaluate and capitalise on or pursue.

Responsibilities and Deliverables:

1. Identifies data source inefficiencies and develops solutions and technical plans
• Engages with the internal operations team in order to identify inefficiencies in new and current data sources
• Investigates the data source issues and identifies the technical solutions to overcome and resolve the problems as identified
• Develops a strategy and the technical plans to be implemented that will ensure that the data source issues are resolved
• Prioritises the technical plans based on importance and level of efficiencies gained and then project manages and plans out the execution of these technical plans across the data sources , regions and the DSD team as required.

2. Actions technical plans in the set-up and resolution of Data Source issues
• Together with the commercial team identifies the correct approach in order to gain access to the data source as identified
• Where required, presents, explains and ensures that the clients and/or data sources understand the businesses data requirements, and highlights and creates buy-in to the mutual value and benefit of securing efficient and clean data feeds
• Builds a relationship and engages directly with the data sources IT teams and/or ERP partners in order to execute on the technical plans, ensuring that the data is secured, set-up and cleanly fed into the AppOrbis platform on an ongoing basis
• Guides members of the data source development team in the set-up of data feeds and the execution of technical plans in the various regions.

3. Provides data source requirements for Custom and Special Solution Services

• Confers and consults with the Operations, Commercial and BI team’s on data requirements for the development and maintenance of custom and special solution services
• During set-up, liaises with data sources and the operations team members in order to identify any potential issues and initiates and executes these in the technical plan
• Provides data set up input and works with the Commercial, BI and Insights Teams in decision making around data management issues.

4. Participate in Client/Data Source Meetings

• May be required to attend both data source and client facing meetings in order to understand and ensure the correct set-up of new and complex data sources as required
• When required, attends client/data source conferences to represent the DataOrbis brand and clearly articulate the service offering.

5. Identifies and evaluates data source opportunities
• Understands the current industry and stays abreast of changes and developments related to data management within target industries in order to identify data source opportunities to investigate and pursue

6. Team and Stakeholder Engagement
• Builds strong relationships with the executive team and the Department Heads
• Engages with the necessary executives and stakeholders on an ongoing basis and ensures that the team is aware of the execution of the technical plans and strategies
• Escalates any concerns that may materially affect the data source and or client relationship with the MD and/or Executive Team

7. Team Management and people Development

• Involved in the recruitment process and participates in the interviewing and selection of technical skilled recruits for the data source development team
• Involved in the performance management process by collaboratively identifying and setting SMART goals with the team members as required
• Conducts bi-annual check-in and reviews team members through the formal performance management process
• Involved in probationary meetings of new team members and gives constructive feedback and identifies actions
• Provides input into needs and skills analysis of team members
• Identifies learning opportunities to empower team members
• Identifies the need for performance management and assist in putting in place poor performance management processes as required

8. Admin Duties

Qualifications (Minimum level necessary to perform the job)

School: School Leaver

Professional / tertiary: Suitable Tertiary Degree in
Business, IT, Engineering or related field of study.

Experience: 10 years’ experience within a data centric environment with systems and enterprise architecture experience. In depth knowledge and experience in data source technology with exposure to EDI, SQL, Oracle, SAP, ERP etc.
Proven track record in relationship building skills at a senior level with the ability to engage and present to key stakeholder ensuring buy-in and understanding. At least 3 years team management experience with the ability to guide and lead a team of technically skilled specialists.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Technically strong and highly proficient in the use of Excel, Microsoft Office and other DataOrbis software and systems (Lync, Yammer, Sharepoint, SuccessFactors, Redmine )
• Excellent knowledge experience and skills with MS SQL Server applications and BI Tools
• Excellent knowledge and experience in working on complex data integration projects
• Proficient in the technical speak so as engage with technical teams across the data sources
• Good Project Management skills with the ability to plan, priorities and spec technical plans into a data source development team for execution
• Excellent communication and relationship building skills with the ability to engage and present to senior executives and key stakeholders creating an understanding of technical and non-technical issues
• Excellent leadership skills with the ability work both within a team as well as independently with little or no supervision
• Good problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to develop logical solutions to issues as required
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to professionally engage with team members across the business regions
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise, plan-in and execute data source plans and strategies to meet the needs of the business as relates to building efficiencies within the processing of data on the platform
