Leading investment company based in Sandton seeks SQL / BI Developer. Ideal candidates will have 3+ years’ commercial SQL development experience and a relevant tertiary qualification in IT. Strong SQL / T-SQL scripting skills, writing stored procedures, views and triggers is essential! Candidates with experience in SQL BI tools such as SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, from a financial background will be considered favorably.

Educational Requirements
• Matric with appropriate IT-Related Tertiary qualification (BSc, IT Diploma, etc.) preferred

Key Performance Areas
• Production Support
o SQL (Microsoft SQL, Sybase, Oracle) development
o Query Optimisation
o Advanced SQL Skills
o In-depth understanding in Database environments
o Root cause analysis of problems
o Assist the business with daily reporting issues
o Analyse report request and understand clients needs
o Replicate errors
o Liaise with analysts and/or developers and define, agree and document the solution through the log or report request forms
o Liaise with development team for impact analysis
o Provide reporting impact analysis for changes/enhancements
o Detailed understanding of production environments: Servers/DB’s/Reporting components/etc..
o Provide quotes/detailed timings for enhancements or changes
o Document or compile release notes and/or change controls for the fixes/enhancements
o Change management
o Provide emergency support
o Involvement in defining reporting architecture
o Be on call to sort out critical issues after hours

• Projects
o Project work time/effort estimations
o Development of new reports
o Enhancing of existing reports
o Unit (dev) testing
o Deployment of reports

• Prior Work Experience / Background
o Minimum 2-4 years IT-related experience, ideally with database experience (SQL/Sybase/Oracle)
o Minimum 1-2 years experience using SSIS.
o Minimum 1-2 years experience using MS Reporting Services (SSRS)
o Experience in the Financial Services industry - advantageous


Technical / Special Requirements (PC Skills / Product Knowledge / Specific Competencies)

• Skills Required - Prerequisite
o SQL Developer - Database querying (SQL) skills – Specifically MS SQL, Sybase (T-SQL) and Oracle (PL-SQL)
o Stored Procedure & View Development
o Database internals – overall understanding of how a database server
o Relevant work experience within the financial services industry - advantageous.

• Skills Required - Desirable
o Exposure to BI applications and Reporting/Correspondence solutions
o A working knowledge of SSIS
o Exposure to other BI and Reporting toolset experience.
o Report deployment – Business Objects (Crystal)/Thin Client/Bulk/Reporting Services - Not a necessity
o Provide application (Report/Business Objects/Crystal/Reporting Services) support – Not a necessity

o Knowledge of the financial investment industry - advantageous..
