Ability to travel between 60-80 percent of the time, including international

Job purpose
Performs professional level work to Client Server Services in computer systems management and administration. Plan, design, develop, install, configure, test, de-bug, administer, maintain, upgrade and document computer systems environments (Test, Development, Acceptance and Production) to requirements. Position requires research skills, effective communications and ability to collaborate with team members and stakeholders, providing constructive feedback as necessary
 
Key Responsibilities
The incumbent shall be accountability to perform the work as allocated that will pertain to one or more of the following Operating Systems deploy and operate processes:
Perform operational work for projects on demand and in accordance with project schedules
With respect to Operating Systems applications:Maintain current knowledge of the entire VMware product lineConduct pre-packaged VMware consulting solutions in a timely and effective manner
Assist in the development of standard reusable VMware "productized†consulting service offerings, including definition of tasks, deliverables and standard estimates
Help to document best practices in developing and deploying VMware solutions, and feed them into our knowledge base for reuse by customers and partners
Resolve incidents and problems and escalate 3rd level support requirements to 3rd party support contractor(s) and coordinate support provision. Service restore shall satisfy service level agreements.
Maintain run books for Operating Systems operations utilising deployment- and maintenance guides directives originating from Products & Services
Interact with Products & Services to optimise and maintain Operating Systems infrastructure and operations service levels at a level that fully endorse GTI's service level agreements with its customers
Support Operational Controls processes (Audits, Risk and DR& BCM governance, business processes improvements, performance management, and finance and business management), supply requested information and implement corrective actions as applicable





Perform day to day application       and user administration and other application specific maintenance. In       terms of user administration, ensure that user access and related       permissions are managed in accordance with the user access management       regime.
Deploy VMware patches,       refreshes, and upgrades in accordance with related deployment and release       schedules.
Develop and maintain standard       operating procedures.
Perform DR exercises as directed       by the BCM regime.

Qualifications
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree or IT Diploma from an accredited college or university with major course work in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field.
Qualification (preferably vendor certified) in the use and administration of one or more of Windows or Linux operating systems or VMware

KnowledgeExtensive knowledge and understanding of Windows or Linux operating systems or VMware.
Good proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Good business writing and reporting skills.
5+ years of relevant experienceAt least 3 years' experience in customer-facing positions as a professional services consultant or engineer, preferably with an Internet or "Big 5†consulting organization
Experience with modern software development methodologies, with emphasis on software and hardware architecture, and infrastructure design and development
At least several years experience in infrastructure architecture and design of complex distributed systems environments, including failover techniques, recovery/rollback, and application partitioning
Experience with desktop virtualization (View, Citrix desktop, Altiris)
Strong practical Unix or Linux systems administration skills
Strong application software development for one or more of the Linux, Unix (e.g. Solaris), Windows NT and Windows 2000 operating systems. Systems programming or OS internal level skills would be an advantage
Understanding of computer server architectures, including peripheral interfaces (SCSI, RAID, Ethernet) and multi-processor designs (SMP)
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Excellent process and documentation skills
Strong aspiration to learn new technologies



 
Experience3-5 years experience in use and      administration of Windows or Linux operating      systems or VMware.
Demonstrable track record.

Good understanding of the current state of IT Infrastructure, specifically pertaining to Microsoft and Linux operating systems for X86 servers
