NARGA is a division that provides Information and Communication Technology services to all students within the Science and Agricultural Science Faculties, to enable students to succeed in their studies.

Duties:

• Students and Lecturers:
o support to students and lecturers experiencing technical problems – including after-hours support with examinations and tests.
• Administrative:
o handling and reporting of day to day tasks in NARGA (including upgrading and installation of new computers);
o scheduling of timetables;
o managing and maintaining NARGA’s security system.
• Technical:
o installation of Windows software on all NARGA’s computers as well as the computers in the Faculties of Science and Agricultural Sciences lecture halls, satellite labs and kiosk computers;
o system administration and management of all MS Windows Servers;
o support of the entire MS environment, including clients, Servers, Domain Controllers, WSUS, Group Policies and Users and Computers;
o ensure that all systems are optimised, including upgrades and day-to-day maintenance – including after-hours support and services if so needed;
o coordinating with IT to ensure that the systems are set up according to IT architectural standards and are able to integrate with the University’s systems.

Requirements:

• Excellent knowledge of information and communication technology and understanding the teaching process:
o applicable NQF 7 qualification, e.g. a degree in Mathematical Sciences, Information Systems or Engineering, and
o applicable Information and Communication Technology experience of at least two years, or
o applicable experience of at least five years in specifically Microsoft Systems Administration and Management;
• experience in scripting, as well as program languages such as PHP and Javascript;
• a MCSE qualification; or a certificate of not older than 3 years; or busy with a MCSE – proof to be presented;
• experience in the setup of Windows 7 and 8 and MS Office 2013 for at least two years;
• Strong, proven computer skills;
• ability to solve technical problems independently;
• excellent language and communication skills (Afrikaans and English);
• excellent interpersonal skills;
• good organising skills.

Recommendations:

• Knowledge of VMWare;
• SQL knowledge;
• user support of at least 2 years;
• A+ and/or N+ qualifications;
• knowledge of Milestone security software;
• experience and basic knowledge of Linux.
