Duties: • Coordinating and providing the secretariat for university-wide information governance structures;
• contributing to the preparation of an information strategy for the institution and supporting the Information Curators Forum;
• information policy development, awareness and compliance (e.g. policies on information retention);
• working in concert with the IT Division’s system and information architects on the uses, structure and flows of institutional information;
• facilitating the implementation of the University’s record management systems;
• keeping abreast of and maintaining a schedule of the status of all information-related laws, all regulatory or other authority decisions and all related rules, codes, or standards (including leading and best practices and frameworks), and advising management on compliance and developing and implementing strategies to close gaps;
• supporting the University in its preparation for the enactment, commencement and implementation of the PPI Act and for compliance to the PAI Act;
• establishing and developing this new position of Institutional Information Officer within the University, under senior management guidance, to provide and cater for the growing needs and requirements to manage the institutional information of the University on the various levels.
Requirements:
• A Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in Informatics or relevant field of study;
• seven years’ relevant work experience;
• the ability to understand the complexities of information management, conceptualise solutions and facilitate implementation of appropriate solutions;
• excellent organisational skills and self-organisation;
• excellent people skills;
• excellent communication and writing skills.
Recommendations:
• A Bachelors degree in Socio-Informatics;
• a CISSP qualification (CISSP - Certified Information Systems Security Professional | (ISC)˛;
• relevant work experience in an auditing and consulting company;
• knowledge of higher education information.
