One of the world's largest brokerages is on the lookout for a Lead Compliance Officer to join their Operations in Johannesburg.The core responsibilities of the position are to lead the Compliance function for Africa including South Africa, to promote compliance with legal, regulatory and ethical standards; and to implement, within the Africa division and to drive processes required by the client for compliance standards and annual compliance plans. In particular, the responsibilities include:
Implementation of compliance risk assessment processes; policies and procedures; systems and controls; training; and governance arrangements to prevent violations of law and policy, including processes to monitor regulatory changes in the African countries where the client operates and assess their impact on client operations;
Assisting in the development of monitoring processes within Africa to assess compliance with key policies and legal requirements
Developing and managing compliance officers supporting the countries within Africa
Assisting in the development of key compliance related metrics and reports relating to the Africa operations of the business
Supporting and conducting internal investigations in coordination with partnering Compliance specialists and assisting in the implementation of remedial actions
Specific responsibilities are likely to include:
Developing and conducting compliance training
Building regional relationships with regulators
Overseeing licensing compliance
Collaborating with other functions, e.g. Finance and HR, to ensure compliance with the laws and rules governing the firm's procedures and activities
Serving as a member of the global legal and compliance team
Overseeing and assisting with risk and governance processes and initiatives
Managing two compliance officers
Experience:
Professional experience in a regional management position for a multinational company
Regulatory knowledge and experience in all or most of the following areas:
FCPA
Sanctions
Data Privacy
Anti-Money Laundering
Anti-Corruption
Regulations
Disclosure Obligations
Licensing
Permissible Forms of Compensation
Financial Crime
Knowledge of and experience in the South African and any other African Insurance and broader Financial Services Sector and its Regulatory environment. Be registered as a compliance officer in South Africa in respect of the South African operations.
Experience in creating and delivering colleague training
M&A experience, including integration
Fluency in English
Qualifications:
University Graduate (legal degree preferred)
Post Graduate Diploma in Compliance Management
Admission as an attorney or advocate (beneficial)
