Job Purpose
To play a specialist user interface design role within the electronic application design and continuous improvement environment, ensuring the user centricity of bank applications.
To focus on developing human computer interaction insights through user centric analysis and evaluation techniques and applying them to usability based interface design and supporting user centric process design, providing the best possible solution to specified business requirements. The role is executed directly within the programme enterprise design and high-level release design environments, as well as into the SDLC project environment where the role is both to execute detailed design as well as to support business analysts performing this function

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities User centricity evaluation / simulation
• Provides an early user centricity testing service to process and user interface design projects. This will include but not be limited to:
o Usability testing;
o Early process walkthroughs;
o Persuasion,
o Emotions and Trust testing;
o Model office integrated simulation testing;
o Heuristic reviews;
o Competitive benchmark testing;
o Comparative testing etc.
• Within the evaluation / simulation environment the jobholder will be responsible for:
o Planning of evaluations (objectives; users; scenarios etc.)
o Preparation of evaluation material. (Interview guides; log sheets; screen packs etc.)
o Execution of evaluations using optimal testing techniques.
o Analysis of test data to identify trends and draw out insights.
o Presentation of findings and recommendations.
o Support for design optimisation.
• Executes post launch assessments of user interfaces to establish their level of success against project interface design success criteria.
• Works with data analysis teams to evaluate user interfaces based on ongoing measurements that are drawn on them from various input sources (surveys, MIS, call centre analysis, usability testing etc).
• Suggests interface improvements based on insights gathered.
User research and modelling
• Supports the execution of user research activities (contextual inquiries, interviews, day in the life studies etc) to uncover user ecosystems and support the modelling of them into key ecosystem describing components (profiles and personas; scenarios; artefacts; environments; opportunities).
• Performs detailed task flow analysis and task flow redesign to support the optimisation of process design, screen flow and detailed screen design.
• Provides user ecosystem models to project teams and supports the integration of these into the design environment, ensuring that user centric thinking is being followed by design teams.
Content offering design and information architecture
• Generates content offering / functionality ideas based on identified user requirements, in collaboration with project teams and senior user experience (UI) team members.
• Supports the creation of information architectures and test information architectures that are built.
High-level user interface design
• Supports Senior User Experience Designer in the design and documentation of high-level user interface structures and generic technology level user interface standards.
Detailed user interface design
• Supports teams of business analysts in the detailed design of application pages according to design standards and templates, as well as performing this role personally within the project environment.
• Supports the optimisation of user interfaces from a visual, motor, memory, intellectual, persuasion and experience perspective through the application of user experience design principles and methods.
• Ensures that user interface designs support the construction of detailed design specifications by business analysts.
• Supports detailed process flow design from a user centricity perspective, by applying task flow models within the detailed design projects.
Works with technical development and architecture stakeholders to ensure the feasibility and technical optimisation of designs
Preferred Qualification and Experience
Tertiary degree (Preferred: Degree in human factors engineering / Software ergonomics or;
Degree in Cognitive psychology OR
Degree -Industrial engineering OR
Degree - Information technology) (Also applicable: Certification in Usability)
Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise
Delivery
• Personal delivery against project schedules- measured by task against a project schedule and quality of deliverables is as a result of peer reviews within the team by the senior UI designers.
• Quality of delivery as measured by senior user experience design resources as well as project stakeholders- measured by task against a project schedule and quality of deliverables is as a result of peer reviews within the team by the senior UI designers.
• 360-Degree ratings from key internal stakeholders to gauge satisfaction.
Competencies
• 1-2 years experience in a User Experience Design / Usability environment or a relevant qualification in Human Factors Engineering / Information Systems design / Certification in Usability.
• Experience with the execution of activities related to user centric research and user experience design within a matrix team project environment.
• Wide technology usability design experience would be advantageous. (Mobile (USSD, WAP), Web, Desktop application, Kiosk, ATM etc.)
