Associate Professor
One position in the following area of specialisation:
Data Analytics and Machine Learning Applications in Industrial Engineering
(Ref. ING01/304/1018)
The Department of Industrial Engineering focuses on the following areas of research to improve global competitiveness: Operations Research, Data Analytics and Machine Learning in Industrial Engineering; Operations Management and Logistics; Advanced Manufacturing; and Engineering and Technology Management.
The incumbent will be expected to keep abreast of the latest academic content and practical applications in the areas where they are deployed to ensure relevance and sustainability of the department.
This is a permanent appointment as Associate Professor, tailored for an academic with a relevant PhD in the above specialisation area. The incumbent will collaborate with researchers in the focus areas of Data Analytics, Machine Learning and Optimisation to explore and implement multi-disciplinary research applicable to the relevant Industrial Engineering fields, such as optimising supply chains.

Duties: - Academic guidance and management of a specific research group;
- Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching;
- Supervising postgraduate Industrial Engineering students (Master’s and PhD students);
- Research for and technology transfer to industry.
Requirements:
- A PhD in Industrial Engineering, with a focus on Data Analytics, Machine Learning and Optimisation;
- An excellent academic record;
- The academic ability to present a wide range of industrial engineering and data analytics modules in the Industrial Engineering undergraduate and postgraduate curricula;
- Previous experience in postgraduate supervision;
- Proven record of research in this area of specialisation, with an established Scopus research profile;
- An NRF rating;
- Excellent computer programming skills;
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
Recommended:
- Experience in the management of research environments;
- Industry experience;
- Established international research collaboration networks;
- Good organisational skills;
- Fluency in Afrikaans and English.
